Garden Recommendations

Featured Replies

Ok, so we have a bit of land in the outskirts of Bangkok and have started a garden a few years ago. Something have grown rather well, some to well, and some not at all.

Grows well

Basil

Sweet Basil

Chill plant/tree

Mango tree

Date Palm tree

Grows too well (as in it took over our yard/garden and had to be removed so it did kill everything else off)

Banana tree

Pumpkin

Did grow/died quickly

Avocado tree

lime tree (it sprouted and lasted gave us a couple limes but then died shortly there after)

I was thinking of planting some tomatoes, papaya and/or trying the lime again. I was wondering if anyone had any other recommendations about things that grow well here in BKK in limited space. Our garden area in which we have room to grow fruits and veggies is about 2 meters by 12 meters. So is there anything we are missing that would grow and be useful?

Jack fruit, egg plant, lemon grass, ginger, cucumber.

Pop over to the Farm Thread ... every imaginable edible plant is mentioned there.

Thanks for the heads up - no shortage of ornamental plants that will grow well in Thailand too. Google 'Thai Garden Style' by William Warren - still fantastic imagery despite the fact that the book is getting a little long in the tooth now. For years, I dreamt of being able to grow certain tropical species despite Rockhampton's frosty Winters - plants like the 'Lipstick Palm' would thrive in Thailand. Against an appropriately tiered green backdrop, this palm, is a mind blower. I also found crotons and bromeliads to be fantastic for adding interest to all that greenery, and both are as tough as old boots - you dont even need soil to grow broms, but I'm sure you know that. Good luck with your garden.

Must admit that I'm a fan of the above plant ... thumbsup.gif

Similar to the Golden Cane we have in Australia ... but with the red stem.

Apparently, doesn't like the cold, so does poorly here below the Tropics line

Snap me also.

We have one at the front of the house. I always wondered what it was called. Does anybody know its name in Thai as I was thinking about getting another?
