Mayor Daughter Among 12 Killed In Southern Philippines Ambush

<p>MANILA, PHILIPPINES (BNO NEWS) -- At least twelve people were killed, including the mayor daughters, after gunmen ambushed a convoy in the southern Philippines, local authorities said Friday.

<p>The incident occurred on Thursday evening, shortly after 5 p.m. local time in Iligan City, located in Lanao del Norte in the Northern Mindanao region., when a group of unidentified gunmen ambushed a convoy.

<p>Senior Superintendent Gerardo Rosales, Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Office chief, confirmed the incident, stating that the target of the attack was Nunungan Mayor Abdulmalik Manamparan, the Philippine Star reported.

<p>Althouh the mayor, along with the driver and a police escort, survived the incident and only suffered injuries, the mayor's daughter, Adnani, 30, was killed. In total, the death toll was placed at twelve.

<p>Troops and security forces were deployed to the region in order to prevent further conflicts to break out. Nonetheless, authorities believe the attack was led by Kadie Hamin, who is a strong rival of the mayor and leads a clan in the Barangay Kaludan area.
