That's basically it. I have to do a border run, so I've decided to spend a few days in AC. I know BKK very well as I've been here for almost a decade. I'm in my earlier 30's, not rich, not poor, and looking for advice about the nightlife in AC.

I'm going alone, and still don't have a hotel. I'd like to keep my hotel price under 2,000 *baht* per night, and Internet in the room is very important. Fields Avenue looks like where I want to be...I don't mind sleeping with a bit of noise below as long as long as I'm close to the action. The Royal Amsterdam looked great, but it's fully booked. If you guys can recommend something similar (a pool would be great but not necessary), I'd really appreciate it.

Secondly, the girls. I'm pretty low key so I don't run into problems here in BKK. Is there anything I need to watch out for in AC that I wouldn't expect? What are typical prices for ummm...companionship?

Lastly, I'm arriving at the odd hour of 4 AM. I'd rather not book a hotel room for just 8 hours, but I doubt I'll be a happy camper if I don't. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Sigh...

Good luck with it. Hope you are not set-up. With the questions you posited you will be scammed no doubt. Only question by how much.

AC, such a lovely place. Broken promises and fetid dreams mixed with hopelessness and hunger. A veneer of not a time gone by, an innocence lost but rather a run down street of petty perversion long past its sell by date and usefulness.

That's what I look for in my holiday spots.

Oh...enjoy the food -and the beach at Subic. Lovely.

I've stayed at the Pacific Breeze many times and it is just crawling distance to the bars, clean, foreign managed and priced within your budget. TV won't let me give you advise or reference to Angeles city nightlife forums, but google is your friend and offers lots of advise............enjoy.

Ah, didn't know that. Will keep it clean :)

I stayed at the wild orchid and would reccomend it.

Tried booking here yesterday, fully booked.

I also tried this place yesterday, and got an e-mail saying that they are fully booked as well.

It seems like the less than 1000 or the 3000+ places have vacancies, but the sweet spot window has been shut. Thanks for the recommendations, though.

Haha - I doubt you will even leave Santos street. Eat cheap crappy western food inside a cage.

Go to a country, exist on a street.

It's not a happy place.

Oh, plan to pay at basic rates about 50% above Pattayas hotel prices. Food will be idible (you, not me) if you are a "it fills the hole! " sort of guy.

So it looks like you will be paying 3000p + for a dump on Santos. Let the mugging begin and may the odds always be in your favor.

But it all seriousness - get on the Internets and read up on this creepy place.

Everyone is running scams, the white guys can be worst offenders. Cops, women, bar owners...

The worst of it is that many of these scams are tied back to the hugely corrupt, venal AC police force. They will actively work with locals to place you in jail and extort money (underage scams, drugs scams, the rape scam and a dozen other 'only in the RP scams'. )

From the moment you step off the plane, you have a target on your back in general in the RP. In AC its enough to be paranoid about.

The clubs are total.clip joints (remind me of TJ rather than Pattaya).

Situation more often than not is forced prostitution. Women brought to AC by lie and deceit. I thought wttf, you ate going to AC, is that not enuff to know? I met many young women totally clueless (Phils, dont think Asia, think Africa) from lack of info and education.

Filipinos have a nice charm and this and that. It is this overarching faux civility not unlike India that keeps the place from coming unglued.

Most Filipinos rate no better than chattle and anyone that has a govt job, abuses it with impunity.

Then there is the Catholic church. As a non practicing Catholic I say its criminal.

Enjoy the sex holiday. There is absoutely nothing in AC besides some shitty bars and a whole lot of trouble.

Its a great place, look for places down at diamond subdivision. Like the swagman, patio inn or koala hotel. They are about 1000-1500 pesos a night. Its away from the mayhem and only 50 peseos on a trike to get to fields. Dont pick up any freelancers at all and you will be sweet. Be sure to check IDs on the women too. Ive been there heaps of times and never had much trouble. Best bars are Doll House. Blue Nile. Fluffy Duck. The women are sensational there. A taxi fare for the women in the morning will cost around 1500 pesos. The guys around Diamond subdivision will spear you in the right direction as all the expats stay there. The Filipino food is ok. But I tended to get a bit sick from it. Western food there is great but expect to pay a bit for it. A beer is about 50 pesos at standard places going up to 90 pesos at Doll House. Its a lot cheaper than Thailand overall. Enjoy the Philippines and let us know how you went.

One more thing. Use a fake name with the women there. They are extremely crafty in tracking you down. I know plenty that havent listened to this advice and a ghost from the past springs up 5 years later. The Filipina women can be extremely jelous and will literally latch on to you. Just tell them all you are a butterfly straight up

So, Irish Ivan enjoyed his time in paradise, not getting into TOO much trouble. Lucky him and I mean that. The girls are sweet but dont pick up freelancers and be sure to check ID (hope its not fake or borrowed). Dont veer from the street.

Taxi fare from where he recommends you stay, only b750 plus her tip. Plus barfine (double Pattaya) and whatever the "girl" wants PLUS the boatload of high priced drinks you had to buy her just to get her off the stage and keep her next to you. After all the drinks and you press her, up.to her to decide whether she even wants to go with you. In Thailand, the women understand the nature of the business. In Philippines, many women are content taking their few pesos for drinks (and its a few, the bars work them as slaves) - and let you go on your way. On a bad night, you could drop well in excess of 1500p and return to your dumpy room on that dumpy street - friendless.

The fake name is great advice. In fact, the place is so dodgy you should have a fake, fake name. That is a name you give to any and all you meet and another you give to the "girls". That is because you cant trust the people around you either.

More importantly, a fake name provides some cover for blackmail and extortion.

Lets say she doesnt even sleep with you. You stupidly gab your hotel and name to her. She goes to the hotel, pays the staff for your last name, room# and checkout. She then goes to to the cops and gives them all this. The cops most likely wont come to the larger main hotels not out of fear, because the farang owners paid them off. Staying where Ivan told you about in Diamond, all bets off. They'll catch you up in the street or airport - you are arrested. Rape, assault...ciuld be anything. If you think this all bs, Google it.

II if you thought any Filipino food outside bbq was even edible, you know nothing about food.

Few days is about as much as i could handle there.

Food is terrible, coffee is terrible, 1 shopping mall with crazy prices.

Will not mention that there is nothing to do or see at all day time, night entertainment is ok.

I usually stay at Park (something) around $45 per night and little away from all the noise.

Rooms decent, everything works, I think its cheaper sister of Pacific Breeze, which frequently gets shut down for failing to pay city bribes tax

AC was ok back when it was priced accordingly. Now it's too expensive for what you get. See that cup half empty post for an explanation of that. For me the biggest disappointment is the food in the PI in general. Total garbage compared to Thailand at twice the price. Hotels in AC are way overpriced compared to Thailand for what you get as well.

Still remember going to what I was told was "the best buffet in AC" several years ago in an English or Irish pub I think. The main dish for the lunch buffet was pork and beans. The dinner buffet added wieners to the beans. Went to some place I was told served the best sandwiches. I asked them for their best sandwich and got spam on wonderbread. I asked them if I could get whole wheat bread and got a 1000 yard stare. I don't think they knew what whole wheat bread was.

Went to a place I was told had good TexMex. Ordered a burrito and got pork and beans wrapped in store bought taco shell with melted velveta cheese.

You can get decent food in better restaurants but it's really expensive. Generally the food found in the average every day places is crap.

Thanks for the tips, etc. I actually had a great time. Though I went alone, I made friends with a guy on the plane, shared a taxi with him, and met up with him during my stay. We were both AC newbs.

I love to play poker, so AC had that during the day. I also love to play pool, and the quality of the pool tables were good to excellent. As most people said, the food wasn't that impressive (high quantity, high price, low quality). However, hotels were great for the price. There are suites on Fields Ave that are 1600 pesos, and some are as big as an entire floor of my BKK house!

The girls were a refreshing change since they hold more common sense than their Thai sisters IMO. They see things for the long term, and not just for today (same goes for their pool play...they actually plan 2-3 shots ahead, lol). Some are even witty with their jokes.

Alas, it is what it is. 3 nights was plenty, and I'm glad to be back.

Sorry, but had to hide the post with that website. A bit to risque for us here in Thailand...unfortunately.

Why? It is a Stickman kind of site and have been posted here before.

Agree. That site didn't seem to have anything worse than what Stick posts, but this isn't my forum.

So I guess you don't like Angeles?coffee1.gif And from your obviously negative post I guess you have had some misfortune there?
Do you care to share what happened on your visit/visits there, it may be very beneficial to all on this site.

I understood customers payed the bar the total price for the girls EWR (early work release) and all you did in the morning was give your companion a tip(optional) and taxi fare (also optional). Of course most guys after enjoying their night are more than happy to give a nice tip.

Oh and a 750 baht taxi fare from Diamond subdivision which is approx. 2kms from Fields avenue(the main entertainment area where the big clubs are located) is not only difficult to believe but totally incorrect.

I have been to Angeles city 18 times but maybe just maybe my trips have been blessed with good fortune as I have never had a problem there. But then again I don't go looking for problems either.smile.png

Please feel free to enlighten us further with your advice.

Expect hotels to be 2X the price of LOS and half the quality.

Falang food same same.

transport same same,

but the real value is in the GFE that you will get with the girls, but that can cost 2X+

I've been to Angeles a couple of times and what bangkokburning has said is mostly true,a year or two ago a bar/hotel owner from the RUC(Royal Ulster Constabulary),Northern Ireland got a full clip of 12 or 13 rounds pumped into himself and his girlfriend as they lay asleep in his apartment.Somebody sure wanted that guy dead!

Last time I went there I got scammed in Cambodia bar for 8,000 pesos and was escorted to the ATM by a security guard from the bar with a shotgun. In Philippines the bar fine is paid upfront so as soon as the girl gets the chance, for example if you go to the toilet, she will run off into the night, happens all over the Phils!

The best place to stay in Angeles City is the ABC or Angeles Beach Club. You can actually get yourself helicoptered in from Clark Airport/Airbase,I was there for a friend's birthday but unfortunately the owner was away in his helicopter so we couldn't get that option.

For anyone that hasn't been it really is an awful place, like one great big,festering,open,pus-filled sore on the backside of Luzon Island! Why on earth anyone would go there more than a couple of times is completely beyond me,you'd have a much better time in Burgos,Manila.

Plus you have fantastic restaurants in Greenbelt,Makati around Ayala Museum, whereas going upmarket in the stinking dive that is Angeles would probably be an equally fetid JollyBee menu!
