Hackers target Thai PM with online insult

BANGKOK, May 8, 2013 (AFP) - Hackers infiltrated the website of Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's office on Wednesday, posting offensive comments in the latest attack on her character.

The words "I'm a slutty moron" appeared briefly alongside a picture of a smiling Yingluck, followed by "I know that I am the worst Prime Minister ever in Thailand history!!!". It was signed by "Unlimited Hack Team".

The government quickly shut down the website and warned the perpetrators they faced tough punishment if caught.

"It might have been done by some teenagers... or maybe it was for political purposes," said the prime minister's secretary-general, Suranand Vejjajiva.

"Hacking a website is easy... but don't forget that checking who did it is not hard either," he told reporters.

"If we find them, they will be charged under the computer crime act," he said, referring to a contentious law that rights groups say is sometimes used to muzzle online dissent.

The incident comes days after Yingluck filed a defamation case against a cartoonist for allegedly comparing her to a prostitute on his Facebook page.

Chai Rachawat, a cartoonist for a prominent daily newspaper, posted pictures of Yingluck accompanied by the words "... a prostitute is not an evil person, the hooker only sells body. But an evil woman sells the nation".

His post apparently took aim at the premier's appearance at a democracy forum a day earlier in Mongolia where she gave an unusually fiery speech condemning the 2006 coup that toppled her brother Thaksin as premier.

Since then debate has flared over what is an acceptable level of criticism of the premier, who won a landslide election victory in 2011, becoming Thailand's first female premier.

The kingdom has been riven by political divisions since the 2006 coup, with a series of rival street protests.
About 90 people were killed and nearly 1,900 were wounded during mass pro-Thaksin rallies in Bangkok in 2010, mostly during a military crackdown.

Thai Prime Minister's Office website hacked
By Digital Media

BANGKOK, May 8 - The official website of Thailand's Office of the Prime Minister was hacked today with the name and title of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra replaced with messages attacking the premier herself.

Impolite messages written in English were posted by anonymous hackers identifying themselves only as "Unlimited Hack Team!!!".

As of press time, the website www.opm.go.th cannot be accessed.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister Anudith Nakornthap dismissed the action as challenging the ministry's move to close down any websites which posted what he termed as unfair online criticism of premier.

Suranand Vejjajiva, the prime minister's secretary, said the ICT ministry has been asked to close the website server, while an investigation is underway to track down the hacker.

"Legal action must be taken against the wrongdoer(s) as the act is a breach of the Computer Act," he said.

The hacking occurred a day after Prime Minister Yingluck said people have the right and freedom to criticise the government’s policies but untrue accusations are unacceptable and the ICT must take action.

A lawyer for Ms Yingluck filed a defamation suit against an influential daily newspaper cartoonist last week charging him -- Chai Rachawat, the professional persona of Somchai Katunyutanan -- for his Facebook post which allegedly caused damage to her reputation as the country’s leader.

His post apparently referred to the premier's recent speech at a democracy forum in Mongolia where she denounced the 2006 coup toppling her brother former premier Thaksin. (MCOT online news)

"the premier, who won a election landslide victory in 2011"

Wrong! The party won the election, and on orders from abroad, she was appointed the premier.

BTW. On most Thai language social sites, she is known as Kwai Daeng ! sad.png

I don't think that this is necessary, one would hope that the hackers are not from the other side of politics, people need to be able to go about their business without hindrance , childish behaviour that wins no friends, being rude , abusive, arrogant, anti social behaviour , we leave that to the PTP party, they are experts at the game.coffee1.gif

all this hoohah and I am still not clear.

Are they angry about the comparison (note, it was not a parallel) to a prostitute, or the inference that she is selling the country?

it is really hard to tell.

Well done K. Anudth, in your efforts to prove your're a powerful man as ICT Minister and of course a loyal party member and Shinawatra sycophant you have only succeeded in getting up peoples' noses and painted a large bullseye on Yingluck's back

I think it is hilarious.

Ban this, ban that, and hack their very own website.

"Hacking a website is easy...." Sure if you have an incompetent in charge of running the site.

...and developing it. Truly they have the poorest websites of the world here and they have no idea ifQdCt0mkxHHs.gif

Even some government websites are made by wysiwyg editors, hahahehehurrrrrrrrrrp.....

At it involved hacking the website at least we know it probably wasn't any ex pat from Thai Visa who was responsible..

I don't know any adult here who would have the first idea how to do it but plenty of kids who could!

Presumably it has been hacked for months.

There is an international network of "cyber-hackers". I don't understand their aims in detail. But what I understand is: Free Internet, no Orwell control.

The first reaction you can see. And the promises to arrest the actual hacker will promote more attacks on gouvernment computers.

Under Abhisit they cut Al Qaida style radio stations (now they stay Bangkok,) but hundreds of Buddhist, publicity, Tourist information etc. stations too.

The inept people to check all is a horror and good luck.... we will see.

Cousin. He obviously missed out on the scholarship to Eton. Nation building and all that.....

That must make for interesting family get-togethers. ohmy.png

I don' say that the meaning of his 'cyber attack" is good or bad for the contents.

The "cyber attack" alone is a good point for me

The Red sheep of the family.
But it really is a truly odd split. It's like Maggie's relative being Neil Kinnock's pa.

It also suggests that possibly abhisit is really an obligated puppet to his situation. Maybe one day he may break free.

Count down the days in which the Internet will be completely shut down in the entire nation of Thailand...whistling.gif:whistling:whistling.gif:whistling:whistling.gif

That's the only way those "Pheu Thai Politicians" can shutdown the growing online rebellion...

Never happen...if they did there certainly would be an revolt in Thailand...I mean how would be able people sit on facebook all day ?

Hackers name PM the worst ever in Thai history
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Hackers got into the PM's Office website (www.opm.go.th) yesterday and posted a photograph of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra along with a message calling her the worst premier in Thailand's history.

The website could not be accessed later. The site was hacked at around noon by someone claiming to be a member of the "Unlimited Hack Team", though the team has denied this.

The hacker posted the picture of Yingluck laughing, captioned: "I know I am the worst Prime Minister ever in Thai history."

The hacker also changed a menu item listing Yingluck's Cabinet on the top left-hand corner of the page with a very rude sentence. Information and Communications Technology Anudith Nakornthap said officials were trying to trace the hacker.

Quite predictable incident. Whenever you tell a child not to say something or do something without clarity, it provokes a reaction and an inclination to test and reject.
