Police Bust Two Bulgarians With Fake ATM Cards

Two men from Bulgaria were arrested in Jomtien for scamming money from Pattaya ATMs with fake bank cards. Police seized a total of 27 ATM cards. The suspects got the fake cards from a Russian man and were sending him most of the stolen money.

PATTAYA – May 9, 2013 [PDN]; The arrests of two Bulgarians tourists who used fake electronic cards to withdraw money from ATMs around the town was made by Special Operations officers from Pattaya police station.

The police had been notified by Siam Commercial Bank that there was a foreign gang that came to use fake electronic cards to withdraw cash from the ATMs in Pattaya, which made the bank lose a lot of money.

So the police went on investigation, and dispersed their forces to monitor every ATM location that the bank staff informed them the cash had been illegally withdrawn. At last, the police found the thieves when they went to a Jomtien ATM.

The suspects were identified as Mr. Prodanov Gorgi Petoth, and Mr. Cassaky Boris Boris Gogif, both Bulgarians. They had the same appearances as the thieves the police had seen on the CCTVs of the ATMs around Pattaya.

My favourite cop group shot was one where they were proudly displaying a haul of counterfeit goods and one of the police had an Armani shirt on.

CHON BURI, May 9 - Police in the Thai seaside resort of Pattaya arrested two Bulgarian men Tuesday as they used counterfeit ATM cards to withdraw cash worth millions of baht.

Pattaya police chief Pol Lt Col Chiddecha Songhong, heading the anti-transnational crime centre, said the two detainees were identified as Prodanov Georgi Petrov and Katsarsku Boris Georgiev, both aged 34.

Police also seized 27 electronic bank cards during the arrest.

Col Chiddecha said Siam Commercial Bank had informed police that foreign nationals, using fake ATM cards, withdrew cash from automated teller machine across the city.

Police were able to arrest the pair as they used the fake cards to withdraw money from an ATM machine at Jomtien Beach.

They confessed to police that they got the counterfeit cards from a Russian man and were supposed to later transfer the withdrawn funds to him, keeping ten per cent of the total as their commission.

The accrued damage they inflicted reached several million baht as both men continued to withdraw money for a month, while the card owners whose identities were falsely used were all living overseas.

Col Chiddecha said investigation is underway seeking further arrests in the ATM skimming gang. (MCOT online news)

PATTAYA: -- Two Bulgarians were arrested and caught with fake credit cards on Thursday with the assistance of the Siam Commercial Bank who had detected the men withdrawing cash with the cards from ATM’s in the Jomtien area.

Mr. Boris Georgiev Katsarski aged 34 and Mr. Georgi Petrov Prodanov of the same age were located and arrested on Jomtien Beach after security camera footage from ATM’s confirmed their actions and identities.

A total of 19 credit cards were seized and reportedly contain customer account details from British and French banks. During questioning the pair claimed they worked for a Russian Agent who would pay them 10% of everything they were able to withdraw.

The banks didn't lose anything...the poor customers who actually had their accounts robbed lost the money.
