Noob Questions About Water Storage Tanks & Pumps.

Since we went onto Pattaya water meters from the private ones on the estate, the pressure has dropped dramatically so it looks like I need a tank and a pump.

As I've never had or seen a set-up for a single storey house, these are simple questions.........

1) Is the set-up water meter - tank - pump in that order?

2) What tank is best, stainless steel or plasic water storage?

3) When a storage tank is full and the mains pressure in the street is down, what stops the water flowing back out?

4) If it is meter, tank, pump - Will the tank fill up from the water mains when there is so little mains pressure?

5) What size tank for 2 people in a single storey house?

6) Do they do a tank with a pump built in?

Any other info for noobs who have never wset up a system before?

Thanks :)

You should consider putting gutters on your villa, then install 1 large tank,If you have room,Or several smaller ones,If not. Then bring meter water in,And fit it with a ballcock(float shut off).Run down pipes from gutters to fill tanks when raining. Then you fit a pump with a pressure switch. And depending what you are using water for, A filter.

1. Yes.

2. Either, I use a plastic one, as the inlet pipe is internal. quality varies with price.

3. The inlet is in the top of the tank.

4. Yes but slowly.

5. 700 litres would be ok. Check out the dimensions where you would put it.

6. No.

Right. Thanks guys :)

I know they can be silly questions but when you have not done it before, you do need to learn.

Kinda. Water meter, float valve (in tank), tank, pump, master valve (before house)

2) What tank is best, stainless steel or plasic water storage?

Stainless

3) When a storage tank is full and the mains pressure in the street is down, what stops the water flowing back out?

The fact that water doesn't rise by itself :)

4) If it is meter, tank, pump - Will the tank fill up from the water mains when there is so little mains pressure?

A constant trickle ought to be enough

5) What size tank for 2 people in a single storey house?
Depends how much buffer you want. 700L will do for 2 people, 4 showers/day. If you're going to expect visitors for periods, you may want to up that to 1000-1200L per day of water you need.

6) Do they do a tank with a pump built in?
No, pumps are bought separate.

7) (The question you didn't ask) What size pump do I need?
single storey, single shower = 100Watts. Add 100w for each extra shower that needs to run concurrent, +50w if you want to shower while the washing machine or dishwasher fills, +200w for each extra floor upwards of the tank, and another 50%-100% if you like a power shower smile.png
