Chinese Official Lambasts Tourist Manners

Featured Replies

BEIJING, 20 May 2013: The dire manners and “uncivilised behaviour” of some Chinese tourists abroad are harming the country’s image, said a top official who lamented their poor “quality and breeding”, according to state-run media.

Wang Yang, one of China’s four vice premiers, singled out for condemnation “talking loudly in public places, jay-walking, spitting and willfully carving characters on items in scenic zones”.

Such “uncivilised behaviours” were “often criticised by the media and have damaged the image of Chinese people and caused vicious impact”, he said, according to the website of the People’s Daily, the ruling Communist Party’s mouthpiece.

Well I'm glad to see it was a Chinese official. As long as they come in droves and spend lots of money they can “talking loudly in public places, jay-walking, spitting and willfully carving characters on items in scenic zones”......and no Thai official will say anything!

  • They are no better at home dealing with visitors. I understand why many don't care for the Chinese because when I asked may I use a Phone at the Hotel I was staying at in Shanghai the answer was NO. May I use Internet NO. The only word my Hosts knew in English was NO I guess.

Got a similar news today here, presented in a more "politically correct manner" :

For what i know, living in China for over 2 years, they just behave the same way here...

Most of the time no regards for others, in any situation.

So i doubt this law can change much...

Not a problem if you know what to expect out of them.

Apparently the Thai staff at the night plaza here in Chiang Rai are referring, in Thai, to our Chinese holidaymakers as - cockroach crap!

He forgot, shitting in swimming pools.

Not sure about this "lambast" thing but I do loves to "baste my lamb". Mmmm.

Seems the "lowly" farang has finally been subbed out and replaced by cockroach shit... A step towards acceptance perhaps? :P

The willfully carving characters in a "scenic zone" seems to be a reference to the 15 year old Chinese juvenile delinquent that carved his name on an Egyptian sculpture at the 3500 year old Luxor temple. http://us.cnn.com/2013/05/27/travel/china-egypt/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 not what I would classify as a scenic zone.
