Getting 30 Day Free Visa After Having Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

I am in the early stages of planning a SE Asia trip, with this itinerary:

-2 months in Thailand (roughly)

-1 month Vietnam
-1 month Thailand
-3 weeks Myanmar
-1 month Thailand

I know that I will need a 60-day Thai Tourist Visa for the first leg of the

trip. (I just picked up an application form at the Thai Consulate in NYC.)

My question is: when I make the 2 return trips to Thailand, will Immigration

issue me 30-day free Tourist Visas for each additional stay? I know that

one is only allowed to stay in Thailand for 90 days every 6 months with

the free visas. Does the time spent of the Tourist Visa 'count'? Would

it be better to get a 180-day Double Entry Tourist Visa to cover all 3 trips?

I should add that all 3 arrivals will be by air, not land.

Any advice will be appreciated. Apologies if this is a really dumb question.

There is no limit of 90 day stay in six months - that only applied to visa exempt entry and was rescinded several years ago at the time land entry visa exempt became 15 days. So if you arrive by air you will get 30 days but if by land only 15. Single tourist visa should be all you need for Thailand.

Sounds like you have it all worked out already.. but what is your nationality?

Note the entry at airport is 30 days (not 1 month) extendable by 7 days at immigration.

The Visa Entry will be 60 days, extendable by 30 days at immigration.
