YALA, 7 June 2013, (NNT) -- Deputy Yala Governor Sayan Intarapakdi presided over the Anti Human Trafficking Day celebrations at Yala Municipality Youth Center yesterday, reaffirming the policies to develop social and human security.

The event was a joint effort by various provincial offices comprising the Attorney’s Office, the Labor Welfare and Protection Office, the Employment Office, the Boy's Foster Home, and other welfare offices for children.

The event was highlighted by a walking and cycling rally carrying labels and signs showing slogans against human trafficking. Also joining the rally were 450 Myanmar laborers in the province.

Head of the Yala Social Development and Human Security Office, Teerapong Srisukon, stated that the event is in line with the Cabinet resolution made in 2008 designating June 6 as the Anti Human Trafficking Day. He added the event was aimed at educating and raising awareness of the public about human trafficking, which is deemed a social and national issue.

Thailand- Mozambique strengthen ties on aviation

BANGKOK, 7 June 2013 (NNT) - Mozambique's Minister of Transportation and Communication Paulo Zucula has met with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to discuss cooperation on aviation during his official visit to the kingdom of Thailand.

During his meeting with the Thai Premier, Mr Zucula praised Thailand for its peaceful environment and steady economic growth, while expressing a keen interest in various areas which Thailand has extensive expertise in, especially aviation. According to the minister, Mozambique is now undergoing a development project for its airports and air traffic control in order to uplift its aviation system in line with the international standard.

Mozambique has, therefore, asked Thailand to help improve its staff and technology in the aviation field.

In response, Ms Yingluck said Thailand would be happy to lend its hand to Mozambique, while ordering the Transportation Ministry to give its full support to the Southeast African country.

Both parties also discussed preparations for the Thai Premier’s visit to the Republic of Mozambique, which is scheduled for late July. The visit will be the first ever by a Thai leader in the Thai-Mozambican history.

Violence must subside if talks are to continue: Abhisit
By Digital Media

BANGKOK, June 7 - Thailand's opposition leader today urged the government to make it clear to militant groups that unless the mounting violence in the insurgency-torn far South is reduced, there should be no further talks with militant groups.

Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva commented ahead of the third round of the peace dialogue between the Thai government delegation and the Berisan Revolusi Nasitional (BRN) insurgent group set for next week in Malaysia.

If the government stands firm that the June 13 talks must go ahead, Mr Abhisit said, it should clearly state that the talks must be held on condition that the continuing violence must subside rather than furthering the talks upon further losses of people's lives.

The opposition leader said he had earlier suggested to Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung who supervises national security affairs that the talks should not resume if the violence reduction does not subside in the troubled region.

More than 5,000 people have been killed, including civilians and children, in nearly a decade long insurgency in the Muslim-majority southern border province of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat. (MCOT online news)
