Ministry of Energy encourages palm oil consumption

The Ministry of Energy is ready to support the usage of palm oil in the nation, and stresses that there is no need to import palm oil.

Energy Minister Wiset Jupibal (วิเศษ จูภิบาล) disclosed that his ministry is making excellent progress in supporting the development of bio-diesel to build alternative sources of energy in the agricultural sector, and to sustain palm oil harvests in the nation. Mr. Wiset revealed that the project has the cabinet's full backing. The ministry has set a target of 5% national mixed bio-diesel B5 usage by 2011, or about 8.5 million liters of bio-diesel consumption per day.

The encouragement of bio-diesel B5 and B10 will also necessitate the cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture, which will involve initiatives to plant palm trees, as well as other oily plants to meet the demand of bio-diesel production. The Ministry of Energy has concluded that current bio-diesel usage does not require the importation of palm oil from other nations.
