I asked my Matthayom 6 students today what they thought about the revolt in Egypt. They didn't know anything about it. So, I asked them what they thought about corruption in Thailand. They didn't care and said politics is boring. They were more interested in what was for lunch today.

If pouring billions of baht down the drain in a failed attempt to lift rice farmer's incomes, and at the same time enriching wealthy landowners, rice millers, storage owners and corrupt officials, isn't corruption and abuse of power, what the bloody hell is?

If memory serves me right he was in office when the bill was brought in he said nothing then. He may not be the sharpest knife in the drewer but surely he was not dumb enough to think it was going to work?

Your post seems to hinge on the assumption that those in the middle are completely ignorant of the financial drain of the rice scam. Otherwise how do you find that people will increase support of a government policy wasting hundreds of billions of baht and pleasing nobody (with the possible exception of the corrupt, which includes most of her government).

The Yingluck government are between a rock and a hard place with all the promises they made to the rural Thai's.

They can't sell the rice and they can't drop the price. They are having problems appeasing the red shirts who now want the

rewards they were promised.

It's a bit like Egypt and look what's happening there.

As for talk of borrowing trillions of baht for high speed rail links they can't even run a low speed system on it's last legs.
