'04-'05 Honda Civic

What do you car experts think of this one? I'm eying one. One owner, owned by a friend, with low kilometers (about 130,000), 1.7 liter engine, automatic transmission, very nice condition, well maintained.

What would be a reasonable valuation for this car, and are there any reliability/durability concerns about this model? (I don't know the exact year, as far as I know the 03-05 models were identical).

Have a look on thaircar or one2car website and knock off 50-80k on what the 2nd hand dealers charge.

My wife is selling her 04 Civic for 320k but has had no offers. She will drop to 295k for a quick sale. From memory it has less than 130k on the clock.

Honda cars are generally very reliable, especially if service intervals had been followed.

One thing that can easily cost you +20k baht is the AC Comp., they break down before the car does.

I had two compressors go in my 04 civic 2.0 model. The original one, and another non-dealers one. The latter came to about 15K. The dealer issue is more expensive.

Other things to look at: check all rubber engine mounts, suspension components, including shocks. Drive over some bumpy roads and checks for unusual noises. Also check there are no engine codes. My airbag sensor came on at 130K - faulty sensor from honda was 17k baht so I didn't bother to fix it.

Check there are no starter motor noises on a cold start.

Apart from that no other major issues. Mine has close to 220K kms now, serviced every time at honda.

At that age they had1.4 and 1.6 Petrol Engines. 1.7 was an Isuzu Diesel Engine.Didn't know the diesel came to Thailand. That could be Euro Spec though.

Where is that.?. For that year, 2004 it was a 1.7 Isuzu Clonker. Then they dumped all the Diesel from G.M. Could be wrong here in Thailand though. IMHO has all the facts on that score.But then you can't go wrong with an older Toyota or Honda here.Sure i could Google info,but its not a personal finding.

Honda Thailand don't seem too interested in diesels (probably cost of production issues). Would have considered a diesel crv but they don't sell them here. 2.0 petrol is too slow and uses too much petrol along with the 2.4.

Hondas are very reliable and pretty much everything has been covered with good suggestions except to look for crash damage.

Wrinkles in floors, boot floor , over spray, the wheelbase is the same length both sides, panel gaps being even, ill fitting/shutting doors, signs of filler , ill fitting lights, bubbled paint.

Oh bent suspension parts and wheel damage.

And do check around suspension mounts for rust as the car washers here like to blast the underseal off.

Not difficult to get engine sizes wrong here.Can't remember the Model number off hand,but the Benz Saloon in Europe had a nice Straight 6.Here it had a pissy 2 Litre 4 Pot at 3 times the E.U Price.Yet BMW, Audi and Volvo don't play that dirty con.

Simple answer .Im Not. We all know about the Tax / Import side of things,just pointed out that some upmaket imports are not Watered Down.

There is a 1.7 02 civic for sale in the classifieds 117,000km i guess it wouldnt be far off this price however going up to 400k your aswell looking at new.
