July 16, 201312 yr I've had my retirement visa in another county. Now I live in Bangkok. I needed a letter of residency from immigration, for Thai driving license. Immigration in Chaeng whattana didn't wan to issue that for me. They've sent me back to where I issued my visa. A. What can I do to solve this issue? I want to get this service in Bangkok. B. in few month I will need to apply for an extension, again, will I have to do that where I got my visa? I've never had to do 90 days as I travel a lot. Never stayed here more than 90 days. thanks
July 16, 201312 yr Did you show immirgaiton proof of your current address? They might have been willing to accomodate you if you did. If not doing any 90 day reports than best to report your address to immirgation and make sure your landlord also does that. Maybe attach some rpoof of address such as utility bill or rental contract. With that they will have an official record that you are now living in Bangkok, which is your current problem. Forms here: http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en/base.php?page=download tm 28 for you and tm 30 for the land lord (he can also do it at the local police station)
July 16, 201312 yr You can also obtain documents from your Embassy that should allow DL issue. Immigration only provides letter if you have extended your stay from them (here in Bangkok) and you have not done so and apparently have not reported here of your change in address (also required by law but normally done with 90 day report). As said above do that first (you will have to extend in Bangkok next time if this is where you live).
July 16, 201312 yr Author Thank you for your prompt reply. I came to immigration with the condo lease and utility bills. The officer at the counter which distribute the tickets, didn't want to accept anything. Just said that I need to go back to the place I had had the visa at. Since this proof of address for the motor vehicle department is not abig issue for me, the bigger question will be wether I will be able to extend my visa here in Bangkok.
July 16, 201312 yr That would have been the queue desk and you need the required paperwork for them to issue a queue number - you should have inquired at the information desk in front area to get an address reporting form and done that first - as said you need to report your new address to Bangkok before than can process anything and if you never do 90 day reports will likely have to do it independently on the form used for that in a special trip or at least immediately before you do the extension.
July 16, 201312 yr Simply comply with the Immigration Act (law) and report your current address to immigration on the appropriate form. Also, have your House Master (landlord or Thai that has control over your residence) file his required report. Once this is accomplished you can do your extensions in Bangkok.
