July 21, 201312 yr Here a silly sign on the menu of a good new restaurant in Maenam just along the main road........... I will add some sillyness now. Took another shot of the menu; Now you can clearly read their translation into English: instant fried noodles with seafood. ขี้เมา = khimao, correct! It is too impolite to translate this here. But it sure doesn't mean seafood. Edited July 21, 201312 yr by Dancealot

July 21, 201312 yr It's not a sign, but I just noticed this on my 90 day report form. Half way down. All of you Alens had better be careful
July 21, 201312 yr Usually translated as "drunken noodles" this is quite a standard dish . . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drunken_noodles R Good point, Robsamui. Thanks for sharing this. I tend to take things out of context. I just would like to add this information to share. http://elearnthai.com/post/24804348726/learn-how-to-say-drunk-in-thai Samui, Seatran ferry grounds It seems am left with two choices there. I still dont get it after re-reading the sign at the ferry...... They told me I took the wrong entrance but it definitely said RIGHT.
July 22, 201312 yr It could have a sexual meaning if you look between the sheet's. So every time I go and visit friends and they invite me in, immediately now I'm going to think of having unprotected sex with them. Now I get it! Odd how some people's minds work . . . I call this interesting rather then odd. I love silly jokes, I make 'm as well.. Hoping more and NEW silly signs will come up here! Let's come together. I found it interesting DAL and can see why you took the shot of it. People often interpret the same things differently, no need to disparage them for how they view the world.
July 22, 201312 yr Not sure if I am aloud to post this but I found the name of this bar amusing Thairish bar

I was under the (literal) impression that adding khee to mao translated as "sh*t-faced". I didn't know that it simply changes the word to a noun - ie not merely he's drunk, but he IS a drunk (as in drunkard). Thanks! R

Using your particular vocatbulary and style you seem to be an educator of some kind. No apologies necessary, but as we are being gentlemen together I ask you to give my lack of sense of humour another chance by checking out this other 'silly' topic. Yours,
July 24, 201312 yr Found this a stone throw from Bang Rak pier. (notice that platic bottle to the right, also background is kind of dumping ground for concrete rubble & dead branches) Also, could we please keep it on topic and have only signs from around the islands? It's now mutated into signs from all over the place and more... Edited July 24, 201312 yr by Mole

July 24, 201312 yr Yeah, might be better to place signs in the TV photographic forum from other places Thailand... it's a good community there! I think this link would fit for this topic! http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/607355-funny-titles/page-11 Mind you I've seen signs same same, in other areas that you've seen here!
August 7, 201312 yr Author Graphics graphics graphics! So you have to guess where I've been to find this very specific sign: Right first time - spotted in a song thiew on the way to Nathon. (The driver must have a separate and highly exclusive night job . . .) And this one is ALMOST on the island - it was on the way back to Samui anyway. When it comes to imaginative design, the average Thai person doesn't seem to have any. (Remember the original images on the arch leading to Fisherman's Village? Pretty native fishing boats? Old gnarled skippers mending their nets? Quaint and rustic imagery? No. It was just three gigantic dead fish heads.) Thai people tend to create images very literally, rather than coming up with a symbol or an image to express the idea. Which made me stare in complete bafflement at this big poster in a bus station outside Surat. If I could read Thai it would have no doubt explained it all in words. But the totally bizarre graphics flummoxed me for a while. Little black triangular-headed alien, carrying big nasty plasma gun, using yellow electric screwdriver on Thai naval officer's lips? AH! Of course! It's a champagne glass - an object instantly familiar to every Thai person, and to be found in every Thai living room. And it's not a ray gun, it's a key. There's a lot of champagne glasses being stolen, so you better lock them up or you'll get your lips screwed? AHA! It's not a De Walt power driver being rammed into the officer's mouth. He's drunk! It's a huge industrial breathaliser. It's a poster warning the public about pis*ed police! Very public spirited. Phew. Took me ages to work that one out. (Also spot the bad retouching - I reckon he's bald and they've added a nice head of hair, but also adding a definite pointy bit to his head by accident . . . amazing Thailand) R Edited August 7, 201312 yr by robsamui

August 9, 201312 yr There's a restaurant in Maenam which get my vote for the most silly sign....."I do you eat" What on earth is that supposed to mean apart from a jumble of words stuck haphazardly together?

August 9, 201312 yr I saw this lovely little sign in the Driving Test Centre today. As I cannot read Thai, I will happily think that the guy giving the V sign is telling his compatriate that "I have the right of way - so you will have to wait my friend!"

Hmmm . . . .as the flow of traffic is at a standstill, and the chap in the orange pickup has his forward progress blocked by the idiot who wants to turn right but can't (note yellow turn signal), my Sherlock interpretation is that the driver of the orange pickup is making an unpleasant gesture (see pic), and the cheerful driver of the blue car is indicating that the driver of the orange pickup should go back to his own country . . . Now, Watson, what, quite, do you postulate that this curious, yet specific, gesture is implying, eh? (Another lovely poster - thanks Trop!) Edited August 9, 201312 yr by robsamui
