Chalerm reveals labor preparation plans to strengthen national economy

BANGKOK, 17 July 2013 (NNT) - Police Captain Chalerm Yubumrung, Minister of Labor has entrusted the Department of Skill Development (DSD) to conduct a detailed study into the labor market for vocational students in order to ensure their job placement and strengthen the economy.

Speaking after his meeting with senior DSD officials, the new Labor Minister said the DSD Director General will establish a working group to gather statistical information on the number of vocational institutions and students produced each year, together with their fields of studies. Once getting a clear-cut data, the DSD will arrange a workshop to introduce the students to the labor market. The DSD will also consider job training for graduates who need higher skill development.

Pol.Capt.Chalerm said the ministry would also send some successful students for overseas jobs to increase their experience. He expected the DSD to come up with an action plan on these developments within a month.

As for the call by some labor leaders for him to resign if he could not achieve any progress within 3 months, Pol.Capt. Chalerm asked the public for understanding and to allow him to work to his full capacity. He was confident his measures would strengthen the labor market and would finally benefit the national economy.

He's definitely off the ball. In his prime he would get everything done in 3 months.

5 years later with unemployment levels at record highs... "Please give me a little more time to work at my full capacity".

Truth be told he was working at full capacity from day one. It doesn't matter how many times you add or multiply zero, you're never going to get more than zero.

5 years? He'll be reshuffled out in 6 months anyway.

One month, three months..... I'm sure these timescales do not interest K. Chalerm one bit.

It's six months and the next cabinet reshuffle he's got his eyes on and the hope he can emerge from the twilight zone of the Ministry of Labour to a position in the political limelight again.

does that mean that no one knows how many vocational institutions there are in Thailand, or how many students are produced each year, or fields of study?? I guess a working group is needed to figure this out. Maybe a good position for a brother in law or other, that can use a computer.

"...the DSD Director General will establish a working group to gather statistical information on the number of vocational institutions and students produced each year, together with their fields of studies."

Of course, no mention is made about whether the number of students "produced" learned anything about their fields of studies or if they are qualified (per international industrial standards) to perform adequately in those fields. Oh wait, of course they are qualified. If they weren't qualified, how could their families pay for their degrees and positions in the companies hiring them? rolleyes.gifrolleyes.gifrolleyes.gif

Chalerm was always "Mr. 3 months". Some other Numptie promised 2 months so Chalerm has cut his time allowed down to 1.

Now you see the leadership and motivational skills employed by the shrewed PM/DM. Get the boys competing and increase their perfomance. What a gal !!

He intends to make sure some are qualified

"Pol.Capt.Chalerm said the ministry would also send some successful students for overseas jobs to increase their experience"

He figures when they get back they will be qualified.

He should earn his money as stand up comedian,he is just so funny especially by announcing time frames....

Are you sure he could stand long enough to do a monolog?

Might be best to have a chair handy.

Chalerm should change his name to Baldrick, Hope he has saved his last turnip.

He's a cast off, he served his governor well (as a distraction) and deserves all that is coming to him, no matter which side of the fence some sit on.

Oh Yes. He's been very quiet and we thought he was sulking but he's been working on a project that will allow him to have press conferences, it doesn't matter if he talks crap just give him a microphone.

A star is re-born.

Perhaps it has more to do with the translation. Of course the number of Vocational ed schools andd colleges are known.

The latest figures from the NSO show that as of may there was 330,000 people unemployed, some 230,000 under employed and from memory 395,000 people seasonally unemployed.

While i don't like the man, what he is propossing makes perfect sense if the needs of industry are going to be met as labour intensive industries realise that Thailand is no longer the place for making $1 t-shirts any more and either evolve or move to somewhere with cheaper labour costs.

Maybe the country’s No 1 stumble and mumble comedian is tired of doing his 90 day reports- like many others…
