Out Of My Sanity. Into A World Of Winter Coats & Hoods In The Heat, And Noonday Sun.

Recommended Posts

Here's One For You........

I was out for a stroll just today,

And I came across a young man sitting at a table drinking what looked to be hot tea.

The strange thing was, this is Thailand!

It is HOT in Thailand.

HERE he IS drinking HOT TEA outside on the cafe patio in the heat of Thailand!

But that is normal in Thailand.

And I do love Asian tea, so I drink it myself, hot tea in any weather.

So why should I take exception to this behavior now?

Well this guy also was hunched over with a winter hood on his head,

The hood was attached to a winter coat on his back.

I thought, "Jumpin JeeHose A Fat", this cannot be. But it really was, and it is.

1, Can anyone in the Pub explain what is really going on here to encourage people to wear winter coats and hoods in the heat of Thailand?

2, And is it dangerous to one's health.

3, AND, SHOULD I TRY IT just to see if they come and take me away, and throw away the key, at some Thailand Bellevue?

JUST IN CASE any might think I am "pulling your leg here", and that this does not happen, then please know that this is real and you can see it in Chiang Mai, maybe elsewhere.

Thank you.

Krap.

(And what was that quote about Englishmen?)

(Does that apply in this case?)

@O.C.H. You seem to have a curious, and dare I say, eccentric cast of mind.

But your post's are entertaining. J.D.

Some say

Too much NoonDay Sun

(And, dare I say,

I try not to stick apostrophe's where they assuredly do not belong.)

But while no one seems to be on the subject, I am rather wondering why no one has tried to explain this new phenomenon that I am seeing, at least twice in Chiang Mai.

I do not have a camera on my mobile phone, I have a very cheap Nokia, or I would have taken a few digital photos which I could upload here.

Probably some of you may think that I am not being serious, or that I am exaggerating.

But I tell you that this is a serious topic, and question.

Why are people wearing coats with hoods in the summer time.

I really do not know.

I just know that I have see at least two that are.

And on separate occasions.

But only one drinking tea.

Its a fashion statement OCH.....if you have it then why not flaunt it?

Are you sure it is not some sort of painful rite of passage?

Or fraternity hazing ritual?

Who would be willing?

What kind of a personality would subject themselves to a winter coat with a hood, while the rest of us are running for the aircon?

And then to sit around sipping hot tea, no less.

On the second reading, this has more innuendo than I intended.

I hate aircon personally....so yeah...those who have tom eke out a living in the tropics.

Chai please....easy on the sugar.

Well, OK.

But actually it was not just they that were wearing the coats and hoods that concerned me most.

It was all the others who seemed to take this in stride.

And, additionally, is this statement only in Chiang Mai?

Or is this something that has been imported from America

Like the mini-skirt?

They are just hiding from the sun and adopting a snoop dogg approach.

Was there some good rap music in the background? More...can you upload some for us to enjoy?

Or just a pic of the hoods would suffice.....I love those hoods....especially....well you know....

Oh! go on,I will fall for it,firstly he's wearing the only clothes he has in the world, and from past experience,he knows that curious people like you, often pass him the odd 20 baht, because they think he's nuts, but mainly because they wanted to know, why he's wearing winter clothes, while everybody else is melting.

There's no charge for this explanation.

Innuendo, like wind, is funniest when unintended

Depends on the type of wind you are unintending.

I've witnessed this insane phenomena in Roi-Et.

When I asked my GF why I got a very simple answer; sun protection.

Thank you very much for your backing up, substantiating and verifying my reporting of this phenomenon.

I think you are the first one brave enough to admit you have seen this behavior.

The rest seem bashful or fearful about agreeing with me that this exists.

You can hardly blame them,

Admitting to this is like saying you have seen Aliens landing in the American dessert.

The Admins would find an excuse to kick you off TV, no doubt.

Now that you have broken the ice,

I hope others will report any confirmed sightings, too.

I just have one response to your GF's explanation, I am sorry but I am not completely sure I buy it.

One does not wear a winter coat with a hood hunched over a cafe table just because you do this for sun protection.

Besides, when this "person" was actually sitting, he was not sitting in the direct sun, sort of in a place blocked from the sun by an adjacent building.

So NO REASON so far for this insane/inane phenomenon.

We KNOW there is a reason, we only do not yet know what it is.
