Rent Or Buy?

Featured Replies

I'm considering alot of options here....i have my eye on a toyota fortuner after alot of recommendations off the guys on here....but heres my question....

now considering i am going to be in bangkok for 1 year.....

would u rent at 45k baht per month which equals = 564,000bt for the year

or buy a brand new fortuner at 1,029,000bt not including taxes etc...

im trying to figure out how much baht in depreciation i would lose over the year when i go to sell it...

would i lose more than 564,000 bt over the year in deprecation???

also consider that the rental would include insurance and warranty....

what would u do?

rent or buy?

This is just my opinion based on no facts at all, but surely if you bought it wouldnt lose half its value in one year. Renting is just dead money. I may be completely wrong but buying if you can afford it i think would be the way to go :o

I once heard ... drive it off the showroom floor, lose 20% in deprecation,

One good thing about renting is the flexibility in unloading, just give it back when the lease is up, as opposed to selling it, dealing with buyers, paperwork, etc.

if i was here for one year i would rent - too much hastle trying to sell it, i dont belive that too many Thais want a second hand car - am i right??

But if your only here for one year - do you really need a 4WD? i would save the money and get a car.

Buy one, and I will give you 563000 Baht less than the price you you paid for it after one year, beats the rental deal by 1000 Baht. :o

You will get a years insurance and a 100,000 Kms Warranty when You buy the car.

Also on longer term rentals you can rent a descent used car in the 15-20K a month range. Crash it and you can walk away from it.
