PHUKET: -- Officers stationed at the Pa Khlok Police Box were in for a startling surprise last night when a drunk man arrived to report his son missing, but erupted in a violent rampage after police could not immediately locate the missing son.

The man, identified as 41-year-old Pa Khlok villager Sunchai Fordkaew, arrived at the police box at 8pm.

“He said his son was last seen on July 26. He expected us to get his son back immediately, but when he could not get what he wanted, he went crazy,” explained Maj Kittipoom Tinthalang of Thalang Police Station.

“He kept hitting the police patrol pickup truck with a piece of wood and he smashed the taillights. He also damaged a motorbike belonging to officer Sub Lt Winij Chiablaem,” he added.

Sen Sgt Maj Sanit Plaiguam, the senior officer on duty at the police box, called Thalang Police Station for backup.

“We had to call in relatives to help, and it still took more than three hours to calm him down… Even after he was handcuffed, he still cursed and spat at officers,” Maj Kittipoom said.

Officers brought Mr Sunchai into the police box to rest, and to get him out of public view as his traditional tied-up trousers had fallen off during his rampage.

“His son has returned home after relatives managed to reach him by phone,” Maj Kittiphum said.

“Regardless, Mr Sunchai will be fined for being drunk and disorderly. He will also have to pay for the damages to the police car and to Sub Lt Winij’s motorbike,” he added.

We may not have seen a report on this matter if he had been a foreigner, and he may well have found himself fighting for his life in a local hospital, assuming that he still had his wallet with him, and was therefore able to pay for his treatment...!

3 hours to calm a drunk guy down? How about a show of force, taser, pepper spray, and handcuffs? That was 3 hours wasted on calming a drunk guy down instead of 3 hours investigating a missing person case. I understand he's Thai and they are over emotional and dramatic, but if you want the cops to help you, its probably better if you let them do their job and not destroy their cars.

Yes, a verb in the English language to mean 'complain bitterly' a synonym of 'inveigh'. Not in common use but English language sites and Bangkok Post often use out-of-date vocabulary.

A favourite (English) is the use of the verb 'to slate' meaning 'to be mentioned' or 'to be recorded'. Originally it was used hundreds of years ago as a mean of itemising things on a 'slate' with chalk. Bangkok Post particularly insists on using this archaic terminology and others, maybe to prove that they've read a dictionary? :-)

Actually, to slate someone is to criticise them extremely, not merely to mention them and its not that outdated.

The use of an accurate word is just good use of the language. Better than inventalising a new word, which makes someone look

even stupider than one who uses a hopelessly incorrect word.
