MAPUTO, July 30 – Thailand and Mozambique have jointly set a target to double the trading volume between the two countries in the next five years, according to a government spokesman.

Teerat Ratanasevi, the prime minister’s spokesman, said trade between Thailand and Mozambique expanded from US$123.4 million in 2010 to US$180.2 million in 2012, representing an annual growth of 23 per cent.

Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra met with Mozambican President Armando Emilio Guebuza yesterday to discuss closer cooperation between both countries.

She is on a visit to Mozambique, Tansania and Uganda which began Sunday and ends August 2.

Mozambique is a commercial centre and the window to markets in eastern and southern Africa, said Mr Teerat, adding that the Mozambican government has expressed appreciation to Thailand for its assistance in various fields.

Thailand has provided academic assistance to the African country and worked closely on developing agriculture, mining, fishing, public health and small and medium-size enterprises.

The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on technical cooperation in gemology and agreed to jointly develop the gems market as well as eliminate obstructions to gem trading.

Mr Teerat said Thailand was keen at working closely with Africa to create connectivity between the Asian and African continents through the Indian Ocean.

Thailand has proposed the Thai-African Initiative as a forum for cooperation and a high-level Thai-African meeting will be held in the Thai kingdom in February next year, said the spokesman.

After their meeting, the Thai and Mozambican leaders presided over the signing of seven agreements and memoranda of understanding on technical, trade, economic, aviation, tourism, and energy cooperation as well as the waiving of visas for holders of diplomatic and official passports. That should help out Mr T with his Gem mines in Mozambique. Just Uganda and Tanzania to go and we will have another tax free perk aimed specifically at Clan Shin business interests.

Mister ebaguM must be feeling a bit left out I guess.

Trading what excately? Will it benefit private businesses that are associated with the government? Will the money that comes in be used to support the PTP political machine or benefit the people that it purports to help?

The devils in the detail.

She took business men with her to these 3 countries. Do you expect me to believe that she is silent when the red shirts threaten kidnappingShe is silent when the UDD intimidate the opposition. She is very vocal when a cartoonist paints her in a correct light and then she goes on a junket with business men that are not all PTP supporters. Jatuporn would not allow it. Actions speak louder than words. Your words have a 1930's german accent to it.

There will NOT be one business man that supports the opposition on that junket.

Yet again, the traveling encyclopedia salesman, Yingluck goes on.

Our PM is really wonderfull. Yet another country with which our trade will double in five years as a result of her dress sense and (Thai) smile. Bravo, bravoclap2.gif

BTW will she be present when parliament opens again with some 'interesting' subjects?

All the TV professional cynics on full display here today, trashing the PM. For people with no vote, you sure do get yourselves worked up, all trying to outdo each other with scintillating wit and icy sarcasm.

Viva Yingluck.

Turkey was a doorway to Europe, or was that Poland, but Mozambique is a window. Hmmmm..........an entry for criminals perhaps?

What does that make Thailand in Asia....... the fire escape?

Toilet.

Why are the Yingluck/Red/PTP supporters almost exclusively the ones with sign up's/memberships on Thai Visa of less than 6 months. Same old, same old. I guess the fun is in determining who these people were in their previous pre-banned life on here.
