'People's Army' to launch its rally against govt's amnesty bill on Sunday

BANGKOK: -- AFTER SEVEN MONTHS of planning in secret, the People's Army to Overthrow the Thaksin Regime will begin its protest against the government-sponsored amnesty bill by |first gathering outside the Parliament compound from tomorrow to at least Wednesday, when |the bill is due for deliberation.

Without any new core leaders declaring their role and responsibility in this new campaign, guards and leaders at the intermediate level |will usher anti-Pheu Thai protesters to the gathering outside the Parliament and Government House compounds. Protesters coming from outside Bangkok will have their own leaders.

A confrontation and possible forced entry into both compounds is expected.

Both compounds are being guarded by police units authorised to exercise force under Internal Security Act.

"There is a great chance of confrontation leading to violent clashes," a source said.

The movement's leadership might switch the protest venue from these two locations to the residence of key political figures such as Pheu Thai Party MPs or members of the Shinawatra clan.

A similar tactic was used by red-shirt protesters when they surrounded the home of former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and sprayed it with blood.

This anti-Thaksin Shinawatra movement was developed from a campaign launched late last year by Pitak Siam, led by retired Army General Boonlert Kaewprasit.

Pitak Siam's one-day protest failed miserably because of strong and well-organised police resistance.

The plan for this rally has been kept secret to reduce the chance of the government preparing in advance.

Conflicting reports about protests as an earlier thread had the BIB saying the public would not be affected but this one talks about expectation of violent confrontation although no source is named.

With protesters travelling into Bangkok, with violence supposedly expected and the red shirts attitude to rallies other than those organised by them this could get nasty, unfortunately.

I think I have either misread reports or been confused by reports coming out with conflicting information. To my understanding the protesters are not allowed to gather in the 3 districts mentioned under the ISA. Therefore, I don't see how the following is possible:

"the People's Army to Overthrow the Thaksin Regime will begin its protest against the government-sponsored amnesty bill by first gathering outside the Parliament compound from tomorrow to at least Wednesday, when the bill is due for deliberation."

This implies that the People's Army expects to stand outside the Parliament compound protesting, but my understanding was that they will not be able to get anywhere near it due to blocked roads.

a new coup would be great for TAT's increasing tourist numbers...

go visit a banana republic, live ....

you might get injured or killed, or just robbed, cheated, drugged, but if you do not come, you will not get killed... kinda slogan

What "people" are they then? What "Thai Peoples Army" who do they claim to represent? The article does not give much away.

I do wonder if the people who installed Yingluck feel let down by her performance so far as well and disgruntled "Red Type People" might soon lose patience as well.

Protests are fine so long as they dont affect everyday people going about the lives and violence does not take place, here protests, violence and disregard for the people around seem to go hand in hand. After a good bit of tub thumping, a punch up and retiring for a bottle or two of whatever nothing changes and life goes on, apart from those affected by the punch up.

The Royal Thai Army protects the Thai people any malitia porpurting to be "The Peoples Army" is in fact committing Lese Majeste and a contradiction to the Thai Constitution.

If a militia with the banner of "The Peoples Ary" inflicts harm on any of the people they should be considered to be Traitors and should be considered to be trying to pervert the Constitution of Thailand.

on the last coup the organized tours to the tanks. The wannabe Rambo tourists could shoot photos with the tank, even holding the machine gun.

a lot great photos.....overweight tourist in the short camouflage trouser in front of the tank, trying to look dangerous....

I think the tour was 200 Baht.

Quite right. As you say anyone trying to pervert the Constitution of Thailand should be considered a traitor. The only problem is that would include virtually every member of the ruling PTP party.

Does Thailand have a Gate big enough for all those traitors?

And don't forget what the PTP did when Abhisit was premier.....

So, would your assumption about "The people's Army" apply to the Red Shirts?

Yes the roads will be blocked for anti-Thaksin demonstrator, but the police have been seen escorting bus loads of Red Shirts to Bangkok, they will not be blocked, because the UDD are part of the government. angry.gif

Why would u like to be a billionaire and have so many people hate you.

People don't hate Bill Gates, or Warren Buffet... and they are much wealthier than Mr T.

Then again they made their money honestly and like to use it for the benefit of others. So that could be the reason why.

Where have you seen those reports? I thought that the red shirts will deliberately stay away from Bangkok to avoid confrontation.
