webfact
Chawalit says 'yes' to PM's reconciliation talksBANGKOK, 13 Aug 2013, (NNT) - Former Prime Minister Chawalit Yongjaiyuth has accepted to join in Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's yet-to-be-scheduled reconciliation talks, urging all sides to contribute to finding solutions to the ongoing political deadlocks.General Chawalit unveiled his stance after his talk with Deputy Prime Minister Pongthep Thepkanjana and Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office Varathep Rattanakorn, who were assigned by the Prime Minister to convey the invitation to him.General Chawalit revealed to the media that Prime Minister Yingluck had earlier informed him of the talks over a telephone call. He said he considered the move as a duty of all Thais to support the national peace and order. The former Prime Minister expressed his opinion on the ongoing political conflict, by saying that the debacle has cost the nation its stability and confidence, stressing that the most important thing is the country's survival not the constitution. He also asked for cooperation from all political parties and related agencies to contribute to this important step of solutions. He said that he would certainly join in the talks for the much needed political reform whether or not he is invited.Regarding a claim by some political groups that the proposed talk was merely a means to somebody’s personal gain, Gen. Chawalit said it was premature to make such a conclusion as the talks have not even started yet.-- NNT 2013-08-

Good job they invited him then, no one like a party crasher. Especially one who did such a good job when he was PM. Still he should be able to advise on what to do when the faeces really hits the fan regarding the rice debacle.

I remember when he was elected PM, he publicly announced in the international newspapers that he would be satisfied if he could stay on for 6 months. Mind the massive amount of money he had spent on his election campaign.

lungmi
I like Chavalit very much. When he was PM the Bath crashed. We had in Germany much more money to support Thai orphan children by our organisation. With his knowlegde I hope the euro goes up that we can finance a dormitory for hilltribe orphans in the mountains.
bunnaag
I remember when Chavalit was army Chief. He started a project called green Isaan. He wanted to supply water for irrigation. The army came with big equipment and dug big deep holes. When the rain came the water run into the holes. But it did not stay in the holes it seeped out.The good general forgot to tell his soldiers that using linings for embankments and the bottoms would be helpful to prevent this. He got all that money back when the Thai bath collapsed from 25,- bath pr. 1 US$ to 50,-Bath pr. 1 US$, fortunate for him he changed all his assets to US$ just before it collapsed, wonder who told him this was gone happen? Wait, who was PM in 1997 when this happened? Right, Chavalit Yongchaiyudh
siampolee
Methinks that General Chavalit joining the reconciliation committee does indeed add a touch more reality to the Alice in Wonderland scenario that it in reality this reconciliation committee is. A born again political dinosaur puppet who has not proved himself adept at many tasks politically or military that he has been involved in, Who else is going to be invited to The Mad Hatters Tea Party? AleG
O goodie, just that little extra dose of moral standing and trustworthiness needed to get the reconciliation bandwagon started.

A born again political dinosaur puppet who has not proved himself adept at many tasks politically or military that he has been involved in, Who else is going to be invited to The Mad Hatters Tea Party? I am glad you referred to it as a "Tea Party", since Koffi will not be served due to prior commitments. All we need now is for Uncle Tony to call in sick and Big Jiew can have the floor, along with Alice, of course.. chainarong
General Chawalit should keep to being a general, generals should be in charge of what they know best, military madness, keep their noses out of politic's , government departments and religion , Thailand would like to think that they have a semi something or other Democracy, but in the real world of Thai, the generals still run the show as heads of departments and as politicians , the junta in drag, until this situation changes , Thailand will always remain the same. disfunctunal
