Popular Post dalpha Posted August 21, 2013 Popular Post Posted August 21, 2013 Sad to say that the trend of accidents on Koh Phangan is not decreasing. News is a dead for each day the last couple of days, and full moon night hash't evens started yet. Hope we don't need to hear of more deaths before this full moon is over. Everybody take it easy out there, and don't drink and drive. 4
Partygirl Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 driving drunk, stoned, under the influence of other illegal substances, reckless, without driving license, unexperienced, naked (except shorts), ... what do you expect?!?
mustafa Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 If any Euro girls are driving naked, could you post some photos please :-) 2

thrilled Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 It's easy to rent a song thew/taxi at phangan. No one has to drive after they've had A few. It's A fun place to party. If you've never experienced it. I would go and check it out at least once. 1
mustafa Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Several years ago I was bragging about how fast my 900cc Fireblade was, and a friend who was a competitive shotputter and weighed 140kgs convinced me to take him for a ride. Aaaargh an old Honda Click would have been faster off the mark than the two of us. Can't believe that photo, surely the front wheel would be up in the air!
Popular Post epicstuff Posted August 22, 2013 Popular Post Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) I lived there a long time and could tell you many stories , I had my crazy times & cheated death many times over . but I survived and that adventure and experience I take with me as a precious memory. I know its stupid people act this way but they cant do it at home and you cant deny them that opportunity to do what I did all those years ago. The price is some mothers will miss their children when they come back in a box. but they might just as easily got run over out side their front door back home or skidded off the road on ice into a tree. or worse still die in a pointless war they gullible signed up for joining the military Edited August 22, 2013 by epicstuff 3
JSixpack Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Social Darwinism is great long as the innocent aren't harmed. Let 'em have at it.

rascalman Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 These events are a disgrace, clearly showing it's all about making money. The drunkenness, drug use, and all is terrible IMHO! You go there and get VD and take a chance of dying, that is fun???
Popular Post mustafa Posted August 22, 2013 Popular Post Posted August 22, 2013 It's fun right up to the point where you get the VD 4
Metapod Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 i think the danger is overstated. considering how many drunk/drugged people are there going crazy, it is a wonder that there isn't more death and serious injury. I've been to the FMP 3 or 4 times now. Never had any issues. Just use a little common sense. Those that don't will reap the consequences.
Popular Post dalpha Posted August 27, 2013 Author Popular Post Posted August 27, 2013 Most of you don't live here and I can say that it's not nice driving your kids to school and let them be exposed to bike crash victims with their brains spilled out on the concrete each and other day. A couple of month there was even a drunk driver who flipped his pick-up truck in to the kindergarden at 7 a clock in the morning. Luckily there was no kids there yet. About the same time another drunk driver in a truck graced a russian mom on her bike with her 1 year old baby in a baby carrier. The kid died and the lady broke both her arms among other things. That people come here and think it's a playground for being drunk in traffic is just so narrow minded. There's actually a whole island (fifth biggest in Thailand) outside Haad Rin who have to cope with all these recklessness. Instead of police chasing down pot smoker for a easy fine, they should but up street signs with speed limits and fine the people who drive drunk and to fast. Much easier money, and better for the community. 6
renaz Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 People don't get fined for drink driving over there? Or speeding?

islandguy Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Not really something funny, it is just that after my many years living here never having seen the police stop anybody for either of those two things, your very reasonable question made laughter the easiest feeling to deal with....... 1
renaz Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 If I knew the code for all those fancy smileys I'd put a few in myself right now. I must sound like the most naive, sheltered lass from the c_untreeeee siiide! I've not been to Thailand but a few other places in Asia, lived in Singapore on and off. (Not really a comparison I know, apart from the driving!! ) I just would have thought because it *is* an easy money earner that they would have picked up on that over there; especially after all these years of what seems like a pretty steady stream of deaths and injuries.

Speeding and drink driving are offence's and yes the police do fine you and can lose point's on your Thai licence. I have been fined various times for speeding but not for drink driving but have been breathalyzer on some occasions but passed, the limit is .05% same as Aust. 1
dalpha Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 I think that among the people who lives on this island, about 15 has a drivers license. When I asked the police about why they don't fine the driver who crashed into the kindergarden, they said that they can't fine the tourists who come here to enjoy themselves. But it's perfectly ok to fine somebody 20.000 baht for smoking a joint. Seem like they have their priorities all messed up. 2
AngThong Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 I must say though that I can't imagine there being a lot of accidents on KPG apart from the Had Rin - Thong Sala road. I know people have died around Had Yao & Chaloklum but there can't be many of those, I drive on those roads all the time and I'm myself pretty much the fastest and most reckless driver I've seen (which isn't to say much). Apart from the abovementioned road, there isn't much traffic and people drive slowly, with a slight exception for full moonies and Christmas/New Year.
Popular Post angiud Posted August 27, 2013 Popular Post Posted August 27, 2013 Ended the funny part, we can talk of the real accidents situation in KPG. Every Full Moon Party a few people, tourists but Thai too, loose their lives on the roads. The last FMP, AFAIK at least 2 tourists died on bike accidents. Plus all the unreported accidents quickly cleaned by the local Police and mostly unreported on the media. The road are not so bad, but dogs crossing, unskilled drivers, driving under influence, young bikers thinking to be Pedrosa, People got license with the points of 7eleven, etc, make a road trip sort of a Russian roulette. Anyway not more dangerous than the rest of the holidays places. 3
Kommiekat Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 First time I was at FMP, was about 15 years ago. Had Rin beach had florescent bubbles in the waters. Water was clean and clear. Best KP had to offer. Drugs were pleantiful (good point) Beer wasn't. (good point) Music sucked. (bad point) Last went about 3 months ago. That is 15 year gap. Had Rin water is nasty. No drugs. (bad point). Lots of beer and those phucking buckets. First time I've seen that. (bad point) Music great. (good point) 200 bt to get in for some cheap ass wrist thingy. I think that may be the last time I go, though would be kind of interesting to see my conservative Chinese wife's response to a Rave party on the beach...........

joninthailand Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 And don't go on a scooter to haad rin if its your first time riding one !
