Crossy
At least they're not pointing at you (Yes, I do know it's the Russian guy picked up at Swampy for using a stolen visa sticker.)
harrry
Definitely immigration and not "real" police. They have not got the finger pointing bit right yet.
eyecatcher
Its a case of "look at us and see how well we did", ego boosting...plus you need a photo to pad out each and every news story that only ever comprises of 2sentences not including the prison one. pattayadingo
Good for the family album too. They can show how they nabbed another of those dastardly foreign people criminals. Great kudos Edited August 24, 2013 by pattayadingo
harrry
Literacy used not to be very high here so photos in Newspapers were very important to tell the story. In a way similar to the Sun. The pointing has become part of the stylised story telling.

KhunBENQ
Absolutely standard in all major cases. Not only in immigration police (which is "real" in the way that is organized within the police department). The suspect is publicly displayed, personal details (full name, passport/ID copy) are presented. The boss and his fellow policemen will proudly present the catch. If there is any goods to present (drugs, stolen items, weapons etc.) they will be displayed on a table or the suspect will be put in front of stolen car ot the lilke. Must be part of the culture
theblether
Any Americans on this thread? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perp_walk Is this not the Thai version of the Perp Walk? Nothing to with justice, but everything to do with maximizing publicity and getting the Police Department and Prosecutors in front of the TV cameras? This one is appalling...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7urL-aXAUc This one tragic..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFOM-Y_We2s This clip explains it best...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXQRMZTFFWo At 3.00 minutes on that clip, "It's designed to show off your catch" I personally think it's appalling, as I also think the immature Thai habit of crowding round and pointing is appalling. It would be better if both countries banned it. To be fair though it's in case I ever get arrested, I wouldn't want ya'll to get the pleasure of seeing theblether in cuffs
