Foreign Minister chairs Asia-Pacific Ministerial Dialogue meeting

BANGKOK, 27th August 2013 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, Surapong Tovijakchaikul has chaired the meeting for the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Dialogue "From the Millennium Development Goals to the UN Development Agenda beyond 2015".

The meeting was held at the United Nations Conference Center, Bangkok, on the 26th August 2013. The initiative for this meeting was pushed forward by Thailand with the aim of bringing countries in the Asian-Pacific region together to discuss policies and the next term of Millennium Development Goals – MDGs after the year 2015.

According to Mr.Surapong, the key points of development abide by the United Nations' agendas after the year 2015 that agendas must solve problems and challenges in the Asia Pacific region, such as poverty, natural disasters, education development, health sanitation, and sexual equality with a sense of justice, harmony and sustainability. The people must be the center of all development, MDGs must be continued and no country must be left behind.

Mr.Surapong also added four points to the development agenda after the year 2015: 1) solving the society gaps amongst women’s and girl’s groups, disabled groups and those equally vulnerable. 2) Improving public health services, health insurance and welfare that should be accessible for all. 3) Lowering risks and establishing efficient natural disaster handling procedures. 4) Supporting and enforcing rule of law, democracy, good governance and building good foundations for human rights.
