Thailand condemns chemical weapon attack in Syria

BANGKOK, 2 September 2013 (NNT) – The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the use of chemical weapons against protestors in Syria that claimed many lives and injuries, saying Thailand’s military stance will be in accordance with the United Nations.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul has announced Thailand's stance on Syria over the chemical weapons used against innocent people and indicated that Thailand is ready to comply with the United Nations' decision. He said the incident was unacceptable as it was a crime against all humanity and violated international norms, adding that this evil act must be brought to justice.

The minister also expressed confidence that the US's plan to attack Syria will not have an impact on Thailand as all Thai nationals have already been evacuated, and Thailand does not have an embassy or a consulate located in Syria.

The chemical weapon attack was believed to have claimed over 1,400 lives. The incident was blamed on President Bashar al-Assad's government. However, the investigation by the United Nations is now underway to find the truth.
