Starting problems with Mitsubishi Pajera 2.8D

Recommended Posts

Possibly a leak in the pump as said by Maybole.

But I suspect a cracked injector is more likely the cause. A cracked injector will require the engine to crank for an extended period of time to re-prime the common rail with sufficient pressure to fire. It will then run OK once started, but you're still losing efficiency and power.

You may be able to identify the cracked injector visibly with the engine running. It will appear as a slight atomisation coming from the injector body and you may actually smell the raw fuel. If you can't ID visually, then you're going to have to isolate each pot's fuel supply one by one, cranking each time to see if the cranking period reduces as each pot is isolated. If the cranking time reduces significantly when say pot 3 is isolated, bingo.
