arf
um, who said it sounds bad? http://www.nakhonchaiair.com/firstclass.php Tell me if that bus sounds/looks bad. I went gold class down to rayong (4 hours more than bkk) and it was fine so i would not worry.

onionluke
Your friend may well end up scared of bus trips after this one. The nakhonchai air bus is better than the Mochit buses . You could get a taxi for about the price of two single air fares .
arf
haha yeah i get you, but ya NCA is the business. definitely go 1st class if you can, if not gold is okay...

onionluke
Remember to sit on the west or left side of the bus in case a Cambodian sniper gets you on the route 24 .

transam
My Mrs uses a bus service called NCA, very good service. Newish Mercedes coaches.
onionluke
You might get a bit of scenery in the morning , you will be well up the road by then , its pretty flat going but nice and green . The 24 is a normal single lane for much of the way turning into dual carriageway closer to the urban areas .
ryro88
Hopefully she can be convinced to fly lol

elwood
Thanks for the link mate ill check it out. Its Just the thought of 11 hours on a bus sounds awful lol. Nakhonchai Air Bangkok/Ubon is 8 1/2 hours, and I go along with all the favourable comments for them after using them for many years. They have their own bus terminal near Mochit; far better to catch the bus from there - less crowded and more comfortable. It helps to put you in a more positive frame of mind about the journey. Sorry, but Bangkok to Ubon doesn't reveal a great deal of scenic beauty - but the stewardesses are nice! Hope you have a nice journey.

Popular Post mistabent
Have done the bus and NCA is excellent, though I much prefer the overnight train. Trains are so much smoother and have actual beds, so I'm always able to get a full nights sleep. Bunk beds with curtains to block (most) of the light out, top bunks are slightly cheaper and slightly more narrow, and require a climb. It's a longer trip but you're asleep for 90% of it so it feels much much shorter. A little more Baht than the bus but you don't have to pay for a hotel and you arrive in the morning well rested. Just throwing it out as another option...

sirchai
What about a train with air conditioner, sleeper, a train restaurant etc....? Bangkok -Ubon around 11 hours There's a special train, leaving Ubon around 3 pm,with a stewardess, no idea when they're driving to Ubon. Any ideas? Looks fantastic to me. Just rode it from Ubon to Sisaket twice..- , Edited September 12, 2013 by sirchai
ryro88
That does sound like quite a nice alternative than the plane.
ubonjoe
I also prefer the train verses a bus. But of course flying is number one. Overnight sleeper in 2nd class is cheaper than first class bus. Can have some sleep verses sitting in a seat all night. Another advantage is that you arrive/depart in the center of Bangkok. Underground walk to/from MRT. You do need to buy tickets in advance because they sell out fast. There no air conditioned sleepers to/from Ubon. ubonrthai
Maybe if you tell him AirAsia has a 700b special to Ubon right now, he might change his mind?
sirchai
There's a daily "special train with only sleepers. Leaves Ubon around 3 pm. Trains made in Korea and with stewards. Anybody an idea when this train's leaving Bangkok? Air and sleeper. Plus a good restaurant.-
ubonjoe
It is train number 21 departs Bangkok at 5: 45 arrives 14:20. Return is 22 at 14:50 arrive 23:15. Schedule does not show sleeper. http://www.railway.co.th/home/Default.asp?lenguage=Eng
