Chin Peng dies of cancer in Bangkok Monday

BANGKOK: -- Chin Peng, former secretary general of the Malayan Communist Party (MCP), died of cancer at a hospital in Bangkok on Monday morning. He was 90 years old.

He was pronounced dead at Bamrungraj Hospital Monday morning.

The Buddhist religious rite for him would be conducted at Tatthong Temple reportedly this evening.

He travelled back and forth from Hat Yai, Songkhla to Bangkok to receive medical treatment for his cancer.

He had lived in exile in Songkhla for long time after Malaysian government rejected his request to return home. He said he wished to die in the Malaysian soil.

Is politics making the nation's problems worse, instead of helping to alleviate them?

BANGKOK: -- Rice farmers have problems. Rubber planters have problems. Among their myriad of problems, the biggest one, though, is that their problems have become badly politicised. In other words, national politics has been aggravating their troubles. Worse still, the recent roadblocks by rubber growers, the explosive debate on their plight in Parliament and the rocky talks between them and the government seem to be just the beginning.

Phuket Tourist Court to open late this month

PHUKET: -- The Phuket Tourist Court will open late this month, while another five such courts will open across the country before year’s end, Court of Justice spokesman Sitthisak Wanachakij has announced.

Three jailed for 2010 attack on Bhum Jai Thai office

BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court on Monday jailed three members of the redshirt political movement for six years and eight months for bombing the Bhum Jai Thai Party headquarters in Bangkok's Chatuchak district in June 2010.

PM Yingluck pleas for public order as rubber protests turn violent

Abhisit defended by party faithful for use of "rude" words

BANGKOK: -- Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva is apparently facing more criticism after using some harsh and aggressive words in his two recent political rallies though he did not mention at whom the words were aimed.
