Former Malaysia communist fighter dies in exile

BANGKOK, September 16, 2013 (AFP) - Malaysia's renowned former communist fighter Chin Peng, who led a guerrilla campaign against British colonial rule, died in exile in Thailand Monday, according to his military liaison.

The 89-year-old, who left Malaysia around five decades ago, had been hospitalised in Bangkok for several years.

"He died this morning of cancer," said General Pisarn Wattanawongkiri, a former Thai military commander and point of contact between Chin Peng and the authorities.

Born Ong Boon Hua in Malaysia's north, Chin Peng was made an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and won two medals for helping the British fight the Japanese in Malaya during World War II.

He later led the communist party, backed by China, in a guerrilla campaign against the British colonial and Malaysian governments before and after independence in 1957.

In 2009, Malaysia's highest court rejected a bid for him to return.

Why would Thailand give this commie bastard sanctuary?

Thailand not only gave sanctuary to this quite unknown bastard but also to Pol Pot.

Therefore Thailand not even grant UN-refugee status to these poor north koreans who make it through China and Laos to Thailand.

What a shame...

He is not so unknown now, since the History Channel has been running endless repeats of their documentaries on the Malayan Emergency. Must be an anniversary...

One mans terrorist ia another mans freedom fighter. He earned his OBE and medal fight for the freedom of Malaysia from the Japanese, than after Briton gave Malaysia their freedom, the Malay Communist an all Chinese were persecuted. coffee1.gif

He may have earned his OBE but after what he did to the Brits he should have had it taken away - shame he took so long to die
