Irrigation Department confident that heavy rain will not cause a flood crisis

BANGKOK, 20th September 2013 (NNT) – The Irrigation Department is confident that the currently widespread heavy rains in the lower northern region and the upper central part of Thailand will not cause a flood crisis in Bangkok.

Mr.Suthep Noipairoj, Deputy Director General of the Irrigation Department stated that the volume of water at major dams in the central region now stays lower than 50% of capacity.

Both Bhumibol Dam and the Pa Sak Cholasit Dam now hold only 40% of water each and are ready to absorb 400-500 million cubic meters of more water. The Sirikit Dam is storing water at 56% of its capacity.

Mr.Suthep is confident that the looming depressions will not cause major flooding in the central region. As for the rising water level in the Chao Phraya, the Department has warned all locals living on the banks of the river to move their belongings to a higher ground.

Water pumps have been set up to help accelerate the release of flood water.

Now juxtapose the above headline with this one:

"7 Thai provinces lashed by major floods"

No flooding in Bangkok rolleyes.gifwhistling.gif the rest of Thailand Who Gives A Fxxx is it clap2.gifcheesy.gif

Yep exactly,... the other provinces are just a sh******tload for the rich elite in Bangkok

Not a bloody clue... Just talking heads...

Is this thread 2 years old? I'm sure I read the same that BKK will not flood 'headlines' in September 2011. Maybe I am just old and my memory is failing.

Oh yes it will.!

regards Worgeordie

Can we have this in WRITING please?

I have been hearing news of another flooding problem at Ayutthaya today; has anyone on Thai Visa any information? If it's real its time to start moving boxes upstairs again

Ah; but when Bangkok sinks into the mud, which it will in not so many years time, who else in Thailand will give a fxxx then ?

7 Thai provinces lashed by major floods

This is the headline for the thread just before this one. Do they just sit around all day and contradict each other?

George Orwell would be so proud....Irrigation Department . The one who gives you water when you don't really need it. FYI I have just seen photos of areas around Surin, apparently the worsts flood in 40 years. That water has got to go somewhere. And another typhoon blowing in too across SE Asia. Might be an idea to get out the floaties.

Nooooo he said it will not cause a flood crisis. Flood and flood crisis are two different things. especially on where your perspective is. It could be MY flood...but YOUR flood crisis.

Sorry Sir I stand corrected sad.png

Famous last words! For some reason I think I have heard this before.

As for the rising water level in the Chao Phraya, the Department has warned all locals living on the banks of the river to move their belongings to a higher ground.

If everyone on the banks of the chao praya got flooded, that would make 5mn people. If that's not a crisis.

If you're house had water in it for 3 days that may not make a crisis for him, but it's a crisis for you, and doesn't make much difference to damage if it had been under water for a month.

Thank you, Mr.Suthep Noipairoj for putting my mind at ease. whistling.gif Looks like i'll be going plastic boat shopping tomorrow as I live near one of the main tributaries of the Chao Phraya.

7 Provinces ask which word do they not understand?

It would be nice if this site responded to clicks in a timely manner, rather than just going catatonic.

Another white lie? Now I am worried.

Well that's ok then. Never mind about the hundreds of thousands that are already flooded. I don't suppose they count. As long as Bangkok's safe that's all that counts. Pathetic response.

I find it interesting that this thread is following one that says they have marked off the flood areas.biggrin.png

I don't really think it will be to big a problem this year people are just a little jumpy after the 2011 floods.

Mind you if I was one of the people living in a flood area I would have a different attitude.

I am 96.78% certain no Thai official will ever make an intelligent statement.

What is truly pathetic is most of the idiotic ideas to address reoccurring situations which lower the quality of life for the masses. But TIT = don’t worry be happy.

In a nation where items that cannot controlled, traffic, corruption, enforcement of crash helmets in a battle with the frces of nature I see dampness ahead.

Problem with filthy brown water there's no profit to scam so little incentive to act.You can be sure its a long time since any important people got there hands dirty they have peasants and foreigners here in the best of all possible worlds
