Easy to say no "cannot" much harder to help, especially if you cannot understand each other.

That guy gets paid regardless. Much better to buy on line from China or go to the small shops

were the owner is present and he has a vested interest.

Went to my local print shop in Satuek. I have had business cards done there a couple of times, quite well as long as you proof read them first.

This time I was pricing a print run of brochures which I had designed & printed out using Microsoft Publisher.

Each time in the past I dealt with a pleasant younger (I assumed husband & Wife) team.

This time I encountered an older man, the owner & probably father of one of the previous team.

He said outright that he would not do business with me because:

I had insisted that they corrected a phone number which was incorrectly produced on one of the previously proof read business cards.

Fancy insisting on correcting a telephone number on a print of new business cards, tutt tutt!

Yes, there are negative Khun Cannots around. I live in Belgium where, in a store, after one has waited for up to half an hour for "service" everything is pre- and suffixed by NO.

Try to get anything repaired. "It is cheaper to buy a new one." sales assistant turns away disinterested.

Panasonic camera - needed a new reflector. Normal cost about 40 euro. "Better to buy a new camera!". Hold it right there. I want you as the agent for Panasonic to get this camera fixed. A new one of these costs over 5,000 euro.

Great sighs of exasperation. "Very well, we can send it to Luxembourg and it will take 2-3 months - maybe longer to repair. You have to pay 200 euro for return delivery charges."

Yes, I sympathise with the original poster, and I am certain that that shop in Samui will soon be closed. But in Thailand doing business for repairs or purchases is a delight compared to dealing with the grim faced, impolite morons we have here.

Count your blessings. (and learning Thai will help a lot too.)

Panasonic has 14 factories in Thailand some of which manufacture the cameras you describe. So Belgium probably would have to send to Thailand to get the part. In Thailand there are Panasonic owned stores as well as agents. Try their web site for addresses. I think you can order parts online.

I went there too. I brought my own board with me from Canada, so I just needed a box and power supply. The thing hasn't worked properly since they assembled it.

Yes the board was fully protected.

Go on ebay and get the battery from Hong Kong or China that is what I have done in the past and have had no problems with postage I know the shop you are talking about they are <deleted> useless there. Why not try Banana they seem to hold a good stock

Just bought a UPS from the shop you are talking about and was served with a smile by a charming Young Lady, who showed me the different models and advised me that the one I was interested in (and bought) had a 2 year warranty. Previously I have dealt with some of the Male Staff, who do seem to have a bit of an attitude problem. On the other hand, have done quite a bit of business with Banana IT and always found them to be helpful and courteous. Note to self: must look into IT supplies from e-bay and China!thumbsup.gif

If you still want laptop battery, order from China direct, they are way cheaper, than

buying in Thailand, they are even cheaper on Ebay UK, UK has 20%+VAT,so ,

they are wanting too much profit here.

Try Alibaba,Aliexpress,DX, Geekbuying,* one of those is sure to have what you

are looking for.

regards Worgeordie *google them

Good advice, but airlines won't carry lithium batteries at the moment. Not sure how long it will last.

I ordered one from dx, but they got back and said they can't remit so gave me a refund.

I saw a similar notice on BIC, which implied it was a temporary situation for 2 weeks.

Cannot say I have had such problems in 7 years but then I make an effort to speak in Thai where possible.

Have had sudden silence when they see I am farang and are obviously scared to speak English.

But I understand that, I was the same speaking Thai at first.

I have had that problem in other countries; worked for a while in Brno in the Czech Republic and had same hostility from some shopkeepers. Then others who couldn't understand English would smile and invite me behind counter to select things myself.

I don't think it's a Thai problem, it's a worldwide problem, there are crap people in every country.

Ran into some of this when I was buying my cellphone and getting a sim card for it. I'd read up on just exactly what I wanted and what to ask for, but ran into some "no can"s. I just walked into other shops asking the exact same thing until I got better results, which didn't take long. Don't waste your time on uncooperative locals.

That place is a joke.

I had the same thing when I tried to order some memory there a couple of days ago, as they did not have the speed I wanted it in stock, and was told CAN NOT, even though it was showing on their website. I asked if it would run ok at a slower speed, DONT KNOW, and obviously they could not be bothered to even find out for me.

so I went back yesterday and bought 2 sticks of the next speed up, (after some research to make sure it would run Ok at a lower speed). They made a point of telling me there was no returns, so I

bought it anyway as I have never had a problem with memory in nearly 20 years of putting computers together. Guess what? 1 stick was completely duff!

Maybe they use that place to get rid of stuff that's faulty to tourists/farangs.

I will never use them again!

That is an old trick in Thailand, put a duff part back on the shelf. I've had some shops get upset when I ask for newly packaged, not sitting on a rack tray and want to install it myself.

Just went through this myself with a "new" mifi from Tukcom. They blamed me for not following the instructions; then for not charging the battery; then it was a "bad" battery; then it was my sim card. Finally, after it became apparent to them I wasn't going anywhere, they finally broke the tape on a new unit which, unfortunately (for them), fired right up. I feel certain some other fellow will sooner or later endure the same trial. Edited by hawker9000

I am not dismissing the poster's experience, but want to add something that might provide some insight on the lack of deference we farangs sometimes encounter. Once I went to a shoe outlet and was shocked to see an elderly farang brow beating a 19 year old cutie pie for not having his size in stock. Instead of just accepting the fact that he was dealing with an employee that probably had no clue as to why his size was not stocked, he chose to throw a temper tantrum. The girl was almost in tears, and everyone was just silent. He huffed and puffed, turned beet red, and stormed out of the store, muttering obscenities. It was to my surprise that a young man still was able to smile and wait on me. I wonder if the girl will shy away from farang customers for the rest of her employment. In short, I met some very offensive customers, but very few offensive sales people. Quite the contrary to t

Try and find Epson Paper products anywhere that sells Epson printers, usually a good deal more than your average Canon or HP. Epson paper, especially their photo papers, is essential when printing with an Epson as they use a cold print system unlike their others out there that warm the ink up a little. But somehow, the chance of selling something more expensive is better than actually offering the paper products needed to produce the best results or real 'camera ready art'. Even stranger is the fact that these products also cost a bit more. But that somehow escapes the Thai way of thinking. Ah well......

It seems to be a thai problem when dealing with farangs, no have.

In banphai there is a pharmacy ,each time i go in, without looking up the man says no have, hello i can see what i want on that shelf , no have,I go outside get the wife she asks for same item , he goes to the shelf and passes item to my wife 80 baht please. <deleted>.

That could be something as simple as the guy don't speaka the farang lingo, maybe the only words he knows are "no have"....Language barriers are the world over, not just a problem in Thailand...

So if you point to what you want and get a "no have" <deleted>!

I must admit, I've witnessed this sort of thing, too. Once, a steroid-bloated Russian just excoriating some poor Subway shop girl trying her best to make the a-hole's sandwich just the way he demanded it. Another time a couple of muslim women screaming at a hotel receptionist who had no idea what they were upset about. Yes, you're right - it does happen. You wouldn't think visitors in a foreign country could be so full of arrogance toward the locals.

The problem for staff working in a shop, if that they can't lock the door. So every once and again an annoying customer walks in. Much easier for office staff. They just ignore the phone and emails. Two weeks ago I sent an enquiry to about 20 international trucking companies regarding an full truck load overland transport to Singapore. All had an online presence stating they offered these services. I received 4 read replies, 3 replies promising soon to be contacted, but only 2 actual replies and quotes (both headquartered in Malaysia). The best reply was from specific inter regional branche of DHL that offers Overland transport to Singapore. Head office quickly replied and forwarded to local Thai office, of whom I should hear quickly. Nothing, nada.

I will never set foot in the place again,

If you don't stand up to bad service in some way, you are just encouraging it. By the OP reporting this incident to ThaiVisa, hopefully their business will suffer until service improves. Oh, but please, buy from this gentlemen if this kind of service suits you.

They 'no have' the last couple of times that I went there - so I do not go there anymore.

It's a shame - because the place used to offer good service.

It may well teach him when his boss makes him redundant due to falling sales,or because of his hostile attitude to customers.

Ok, I'll play today as I had an odd customer service encounter today.

I'm thinking of buying some kind of motorbike, so in Maenam I saw the Honda shop was open so I popped in with my wife who is Thai. First I sat (I asked permission) on a Zoomer X as I think it looks quite cool and is kind of what I need. This is no good as I'm too tall and can't turn the handlebars because my knees are in the way.

I see the CRF250L and jump on board. This is more what I want, but don't really need. My wife asks about the CRF M, which the woman says is 142,000b. OK, how long will it take to order one? After about 10 minutes on the computer the sales woman says, Honda have stopped making the CRF M. Really?? They only started making them 6 months ago?? Maybe she is correct and I apologise for thinking she is useless, but I have a sneaky feeling she just couldn't find out the time to order, so decided Honda have pulled the bike.

The real truth is probably that they have switched the line over to making the CRF-L...I had the same sort of answer when I wanted my CRF-L and the line was producing the CRF-M at the time.
