short trip to Myanmar

Featured Replies

I will accompany a friend on an overland visa run to Myanmar soon. As he is elderly, and it is quite a journey, we plan to stay overnight.

I have an ed visa single entry. What paperwork/ money will I need to sort out to ensure I can do this without invalidating my extension of stay? Thank you.

You will need a re-entry permit to keep your permit to stay valid. But at some Myanmar border crossing it is possible to cross without being stamped out of Thailand.

What border crossing are you going to?

If you stay overnight it should be on the Thai side and as said you could cross with a day pass at some places and not need re-entry permit or be stamped out of Thailand. He only needs to get the stamps and return - no need to go beyond the entry point or stay any time.

Going through Ranong-OK thanks for the good advice team-will not cross and just accompany him to the border and back as per your suggestions

Hope your friend can manage climbing on and off the boat which involves negotiating some rickety dock side infrastructure !

You can drive direct to the Andaman pier and just pay for the boat trip + the visa cost for entering Burma. No need to take advantage of any of the hotel "offerings" although you can walk around or sit on a comfortable sofa whilst awaiting the return trip.

You can take their boat to island. Hang out a bit and return. Boat is better.

As are the piers/landing dock!

All round better proposition for an elderly person.

Took my folks many places until the end. There is always a way that is tolerable and quicker.
