Border Run from Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

Friend needs to do this to activate second 60 days of a multiple entry Tourist visa. Apart from Mae Sai, are there any other practical crossings readily reachable from Chiang Mai? Travel would be by larger motor bike.

thanks, RS

Mae Sot. About 365 km. Nice ride people due it on a 125 so a big bike is no problem.

Thanks for that. Am now trying to find out if the crossing procedure (for border run purposes) at Mae Sot is more or less the same as at Mae Sai? Would also be grateful for any recommendations for places to overnight between Chiang Mai and Mae Sot.

Another choice is Laos via Chaing Khong in Chiang Rai province.

Most western visas need around 1500 bahts or US$clean 30-42 you do nort state nationality ]

Irish $35 Canadian $42 Singapore and Mongolian free!

Minivan dangeroulsy fast 5 hrs means theoretically doable in a day but much nicer on Air Con VIP greenbus around $10 340 bahts each way plus ferry 10 baht is what I pay most non Thai speakers pay 30-40 baht

NB Laos visa stamp uses up a who;e page plus Thai stamps basically 2 pages written off.

However IMHO Golden Traingle area is the best of Thailand.Your Lao stamp is good for a month so time to take a ferry to Luang Prabang and fly back or all the way to Vangchang the capital etc

Bon voyage pm if you need the scedules, the border is officially closed at night but can opened for a fee.It is crucial however to make sure you get all stamps if ever to return to Thailand, the ferry wallahs wll take anyone as when the new bridge opens in 12 weeks they'll be history
