PM Yingluck plans Russia, US visits

The minority that hate her will rant on and use more misogynistic attacks which will backfire. If she is seen as doing to little for the country she can be kicked out at the next election. That is what happened to her predecessor when the Thai people judged him. That is how democracy works. The current hatred towards her is not only ridiculous but backfires badly and undermines the opposition who are in desperate need of new leadership and a move away from the politics of vulgarity and hatred, so that the country will actually have a viable and electable alternative at the earliest opportunity.

and if the tory candidate shoves a tenner in my pocket..he will get my vote.at the next election..but hey its democracy working rightthumbsup.gif

Yingluck has done more to advance Thailand in the international scene than any Thai politician. Her trips are far from 'lavish' and she is strengthening the importance of Thailand globally. Thailand remains a pretty important geo-political player.

Of course, she could just stay home and do her nails, but then she would be bashed for not doing enough to further the country.

Wrong. Surin Pitsuwan & Supachai Panichpakdi have done far more to establish Thailand internationally. Yingluck fits the 'pretty face' bill & not much else.

Her trips to Montenegro (obvious that one), The Vatican, Mongolia (a disgrace) & a few others are a complete waste of time as far as Thailand in concerned.

She could stay at home and address some of the many problems facing the country - if she was really in charge of the government. Unfortunately her brother is the de facto head honcho.

Yep! She's still looking fine in that gold number.

CCC

Well, maybe, but you know, I think she needs to be careful. All these inflight meals and state dinners in foreign countries are kind of taking their toll. There is becoming a certain 'roundness' to that face. By the time the UNSC voting comes, her and big sister may be indistinguishable.

"Our moderating diplomacy can construct a compromise of all stances for the mutual benefit of all. I think we have the ability to build a consensus around many disputes," he said.

What a wonderful humorous comment, I would suggest that the current Thai government and its assorted political factions look at their own internal disputes prior to offering others advice on how to deal with their own problems either internally or internationally.

Thailand needs to put its own house in order first, then due to your experience and presumed success you should then be in a position to offer positive advice on matters that may be causing strife internally or externally for other sovereign states.

However it will be interesting see if a certain politician who disdains the U.N. as a filial partner will actually back this attempt to join the security council.whistling.gif

Please quantify the benefits that will accrue to Thailand. One possible benefit would be the Shin dynasty who would be happy to collect a few mil from other corrupt nations to ensure Thailand's vote in the General Council.

So what was Tony Blair doing here recently if the Thai Government are the very paragons of arriving at acceptable compromises?

The OP is much like the stuff we scraped up off the roads to put on the rhubarb in my youth.

To redress the balance after the incompetence of the last administration's foreign policy, particularly the ludicrous antics of little Kasit.

Actually as PM/DM she can, and does, just what she pleases.

Most political leaders around the world actually recognize what their job is, its responsibilities and requirements. They have Foreign Ministers to do most of the travelling, no?

But then again, she is really representing the real leader on her travels. Good job Skype is international.

Do you actually believe she does anything for the primary goal of benefiting the country?

Perhaps you would like to list the competencies and successes of the current administration for us.

Apart from trying to get into the Guiness book of records for most cabinet reshuffles, most white lies, most traveled "official" PM, and not to forget longest time taken to answer an Ombudsman's question relating to an illegal action carried out. thumbsup.gif

It's ironic that whilst KY is officially the PM and the DM she is unofficially the FM acting on behalf of the BB who is the real PM. rolleyes.gif

Laughable - but equally sad.

With all the problems at home, the rarely present PM/DM wants to travel more to lobby for Thailand to get a seat on the UNSC. All window dressing to show how important and powerful the Shin clan are. Sadly millions of poor Thai people who have been deprived of an education will believe what they are told.

"Sorry your house is flooded again - and you haven't had the promised money from the last flood yet. But the PM/DM is doing a wonderful job lobbying for our country to be internationally recognized for its stand against corruption, human trafficking and rights abuses and our stand for democracy. Even the UN takes her seriously. Of course, she needed a budget for all this but its money well spent. Much more important than infrastructure, health, education and water management."

In the other thread ("Why is Yingluck not goint to Washington"), you wrote that "The US can't invite the proxy of a criminal fugitive for an official visit"...

The article of The Nation in the OP of that thread was a delight for the usual Yingluck-PT haters, with immediate sarcastic replies... Most posters writing in that thread were really happy to read that Yingluck could not be the host of the US for countless reasons. A real great article whistling.gif

Now that the same newspaper reports that the US government has said it was ready to host Yingluck as a state guest (making at the same time the speculations of the other "journalist" rather wrong)... you come up with millions of poor Thai people who are deprived of this and that, flooded, bla bla bla, no money, ... bla bla bla ... Yingluck spending the people's money... No infrastructure, health, education,, water management...

It's funny how you guys find enough time to write all this... You don't miss one occasion to criticize the government... one way or the other, it does not matter, as long as you can criticize clap2.gif

It's also funny that when the Yingluck administration has a plan to develop the infrastructure... You don't like it. Thaksin's 30b health care for the poors... Not good enough. When the government distributes tablets to students... You hate it. When Yingluck wants to spend billions to avoid floods and have a better water management... You only speak about corruption... But when Yingluck is travelling abroad, then you imply that she gives more importance to the UN than to infrastructure, health, education and water management... blink.png

I wish Yingluck a very good and productive trip to the US and the UN.

I look forward to see the pictures of her encounter with Obama on this forum thumbsup.gif

Do people really hate her? Is she the victim of misogynistic attacks - sad if so.

She is not the real prime minister or defense minister. Everyone knows that. PTP don't even bother to try and cover it up and make ludicrous denials anymore. She comes from a rich family and has not had to worry about education and building a career. It was all provided for her. In the same way her brother put her into this position. From no involvement on the political scene to PM in sparrow's fart time. She isn't a politician or qualified in business and has held figure head appointments in her brothers enterprises (now including PTP). She does as she's told. That's not a reason to hate her. She doesn't attend parliament because she has no idea what's going on and doesn't want to have. The trips, glamour, dinners, shopping, photo ops must be welcome relief.

As a woman myself I don't even see why her gender should come into debates at all. It doesn't matter if you are male female or any colour of the spectrum, what matters is that you work hard at your job, however lofty or lowly that may be.

I want to see Yingluck as a firebrand of progressive Reforms (with a capital R) and she can fly to any nation on Earth, or to the Moon, for all I care, so long as she flies back afterwards and engages in democratic debates on essential reforms. And champions those causes tirelessly.

I want her to stand in Parliament, cards on the table, vocalising her policies and why they matter, not reading speeches other people wrote, and taking sustained questioning from everyone on both sides. And for her to debate at length on all these policies, and listen to the opposition's policy requests, and to argue pro/cons of all the points raised. I wanted her to be a Boudica-like figure, feet planted firmly and taking the shots in the arena of debate. With a view to demolishing state corruption and to bring in sweeping 21st century reforms for the poorest in all parts of Thailand. The problem is that she really is not defending the policies of her own party, she rarely even enters the arena of disceptation. And yet that arena is the very backbone of democracy.

You seem to have difficulty in containing your bile but your ranting dislike of Yingluck is in fact beside the point. The question under discussion is whether Thailand's foreign policy under the current administration has had the effect of improving the country's reputation and interests. After the incompetence and stupidity of the last government in foreign affairs, the issue is hardly up for debate. In improving the situation the personal contribution of the Prime Minister has been a key ingredient.Nobody is claiming she is a Palmerston or Metternich but her charm and good nature has been rather effective. If someone with rather more discernment than you argued that the achievement was really a negative one ( ie only being better because the Abhisit/Kasit performance was so appalling) I could accept this.

Just by the fact as being the Prime Minister should allow her the benefit of travel when ever she desires or sees the reason for travel. She does not have to be here to take care of day to day business at all times as has Ministers and admin staff for that. Especially with all the foreign tourist coming to LOS, good will travel maintains cordial relations amongst nations. But with all the Taksin bashers on this board, I guess anything Yingluck does it would be wrong.
