Pattaya looking for new landfill site as Khao Maikaew protests close dump

PATTAYA:--Pattaya officials are looking for a new city dump after protests by Khao Maikaew residents continue to shut down its existing landfill.

“It looks as if this has become a chronic issue,” Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh told the Pattaya Business & Tourism Association at its Sept. 11 meeting at the Grand Sole Hotel. “Even after negotiations, the majority of residents are still adamant the dump be closed.”

The stink over the Khao Maikaew landfill, where 400 tons of Pattaya trash goes a day, began late last year when neighbors started barricading the entrance to the dump to protest extra-stinky garbage deposits from Koh Larn. At the time, community leaders insisted all waste come from mainland Pattaya only, not the island, as its long transport makes the rotting trash even more pungent.

Finally, a straight answer to why the garbage trucks aren't coming regularly. I've been on the phone with city halls for months and the excuse they gave changes every time.

Well the people living by the dump site aren't helping themselves, the more they keep barricading the site, the stinkier the garbage will get by the time it gets there.

I've been driving around that are a few years back and seeing moo bans going up and can't help but wonder that these people that's buying all these developments don't realize that they will live next to the tip? sure on nice days like when they viewed the property it might be fine, but in certain seasons or when it rains, the smell's gonna waft your way

Is this literal, or metaphorical? I cannot tell which.
