PATTAYA:--Pattaya Tourist Police have rolled a new mobile unit that will replace the minivan long stationed at the mouth of Walking Street to provide better service for the coming high season.

Commander Lt. Col. Arun Promphan unveiled the mobile unit at a Sept. 18 press conference at the Siam Bayshore Resort. The new truck is equipped with Wi-Fi and other technology to allow officers and volunteers to provide 24-hour service. Future mobile units are planned for Hua Hin, Phuket and Ayutthaya, he said.

I am sure these police guys in Pattaya are fed up with all the low life foreigners visiting. Just imagine dealing with dudes like that on a daily basis: one got robbed by a girl who happens to have a dick. The other ran away without paying his 90thb bill. Then a group of drunks got into a fight with some soi dogs.

They are all eagerly awaiting the results of the first lucky draw - to see which one of them gets to use the new caravan for a weekend away! :-)

These police remind me of the food cart vendors who ply their trade up and down the sois. The location changes, but they still sell the same old crap, and life continues to go on all around them with absolutely no change in sight.

I wonder what languages the folk who populate the van will speak? Given the changing face of Thai and especially Pattaya's tourists one would hope that theycan rustle up a Russian, Tamil and Mandarin speaker as well as an English speaker. A further dream is that they are fluent and understandable in these languages.
