mnodi
The wifes been diagnosed by a couple of GPs as having vertigo - and packed off with medication, but it doesn't seem to be resolving things. Getting beyond the normal GPs is getting frustrating. Can anyone recommend a ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) specialist in Chiang Mai, or other specialist, so we can begin trying to get to the bottom of this. Thanks for any suggestions. Sheryl
ENTs specializing in vertigo are few and far between even in Bangkok so don't know if there is one in CM. If there is, they'll be at CMU Hospital so try through SrtiPat, bring a Thai speaker with you to explain carefully to the nurses/clerks that you are not looking for an ordinary ENT nor one who (as most of them do) specializes in allergy, but rather a specialist in vertigo. Should there not be one in CM, I recommend these two doctor at Bumrungrad, in the order listed. As there are so few doctors in Thailand with this expertise, appointment should be made and arrive early and be prepared for a wait. They are in high demand. cmsally
A couple of years back I had really bad sinusitis, and vertigo was one of the symptoms I would get quite often. Because I had such a variety of symptoms it was never treated as such. I went to quite a few ENT's in Chiang mai, none were much help but I found the ENT at CM Ram more helpful. The only option really was for sinus surgery - in the end I managed to sort of self cure in that it is absent half of the time and manageable the rest. In my case the big issue was to find out what caused the vertigo (and other things). Once I found out what it was then it was easier to tackle. Bet your wife has bagfuls of antibiotics and decongestants - boy does that bring back some memories.
mnodi
She's been given betahistine and cinnazrizine (Stugeron) and is taking them. The former worked a treat six months ago, almost instantly, but doesn't seem to be as effective this time. Think its the first time with the later. Noticed that CMU Hospital has an ENT department, I'll call and see what they can offer, as Sheryl said earlier, most deal in allergies etc., so will try and nail them down to specifics. Thanks for the advice folks.

elektrified
There is also Dr. Rat on Chang Phueak (ENT). He is at Sriphat during the day and at his clinic in the evenings. He is a surgeon. Very skilled and speaks excellent English as he practiced in the USA. He may have contacts at CMU who can help you with your specific problem. hellodolly
I got this of the pinned list above. EENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) Dr Chalermpong Ariyadej Chiang Mai RAM Hospital 053 920300 I had dizzy spells when I would stand up exactly like with low blood pressure but my blood pressure was good. My Doctor sent me to see him and he said it was not uncommon for some one of my age. He gave me some pills to take and said it would go away. I had to get another batch of ten but it did work. For the lady, you go past the Prince Hotel on the one way street, cross a little bridge and hit the T. Her clinic is almost straight across the T, like straight ahead, perhaps a bit to the right but just a few meters.

Bunter
I suffered as you have described and as with many others found after suffering for 6 months found that manipulation cured me immediately and I can now treat myself when ever it recurs. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/vertigo/DS00534 It's simple to treat yourself just hold each position until the dizziness ceases. You could be sick during this. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m8-OiFzjW_U&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dm8-OiFzjW_U Good luck.. You don't need a doctor unless this doesn't help. elektrified
I had a friend in the USA who had vertigo and tried many different doctors, medicines, etc. with no success. It wasn't until he went to a chiropractor for manipulation did he have any relief.
Sheryl
Vertigo can have a number of different causes and first step is to determine the cause. Note that most ENTs do not specialize in this. very few, in fact. It is a sort of sub-specialty. Vast majority of ENTs focus on allergy, sinus issues etc (for obvious reasons).
