BANGKOK: -- The government invokes the Internal Security Act in three Bangkok districts as a precaution to ensure peace around Government House, Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnok said on Wednesday.

Pracha was speaking ahead of an urgent meeting of relevant ministers to endorse the security enforcement in Bangkok’s Dusit, Pomprap Sattru Phai and Phra Nakhon. The enforcement would be enforced from today to October 18.

He said he had already informed Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra who is attending Apec Summit in Bali, Brunei.

The government’s decision came after talks had failed to convince protesters to evacuate their rally site ahead of the Friday’s visit of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

National Security Council Secretary-General Paradorn Pattanathabutr admitted that the decision to enforce the ISA in Bangkok had something to do with a warning by former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra that there would be a conspiracy to topple the government in October.

Paradorn said the security agencies had assessed the situation and believed that the government opponents would prolong their protests.

Don't you just love the freedom. Just as long as it runs along the same lines as the incumbent government regime.

On a good note we just got our Family Permit for the UK today and look forward to some sort of law and order. The kids can study for real qualifications, and we can all visit Thailand for holidays and enjoy it for what it is, a great place to relax knowing that we are all tourists who can always go to another place if it loses it charm .

Anti-Govt Protests To Stay During Chinese Premier's Visit

BANGKOK: -- The protesters who are rallying against Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at Government House in Bangkok say they would not clear the ground for the upcoming visit of Premier of the People′s Republic of China.

Li Keqiang is scheduled to visit Bangkok from 11-13 October. The Premier is also expected to meet with Ms. Yingluck at Government House, where thousands of riot police officers are posted to keep close watch on the much fewer anti-government protesters who are camping just outside the compound.

Calling themselves People′s Force of Democracy to Overthrow Thaksinism (PEFOT), the protesters accuse Ms. Yingluck of serving as a puppet for her brother, the controversial former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, and demand her resignation.

Earlier this morning, Pol.Maj.Gen. Adul Narongsak, deputy commander of Bangkok Metropolitan Police, visited the protesters′ camp with his assistants and attempted to negotiate with PEFOT representatives, namely Adm. Chai Suwannaparp and Gen. Preecha Eiamsupan.

Sitting on a mat near Gate Three of Government House, Pol.Maj.Gen. Adul proposed that PEFOT move their rally to somewhere else, preferably Lumpini Park, during Mr. Li′s visit in order to maintain "good atmosphere" around Government House for the foreign delegates.

"After that, you are welcomed to come back and protest again," Pol.Maj.Gen. Adul told the protest leaders.

The deputy commander stressed during the meeting that the police have to place checkpoints around the protesters′ camp to safeguard the welfare of the protesters. He said the officers have confiscated firearms, knives, and scissors from individuals who attempted to enter the protest site.

"We do not know who these people are," Pol.Maj.Gen. Adul said, "We have received intelligence that a third hand party is intent on creating [chaotic] situation,"

However, Adm. Chai and Gen. Preecha insisted the protests would not disperse during the visit of the Chinese Premier, and offered to keep the camp site in clean and orderly fashion.

"I think it′s something we can show the foreigners, so they will see that Thailand has democracy and the rights of expression," said Gen. Preecha, adding that Ms. Yingluck should take Mr. Li for a walking tour in the protesters′ camp to prove that point.

Pol.Maj.Gen. Adul said he hoped both parties can engage in further rounds of negotiation in order to solve the matter.

BANGKOK, 9 October 2013 (NNT) - The government has approved the use of the Internal Security Act (ISA) to control anti-government protests near Government House from now until October 18.

Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnok held a meeting with related ministers at Government House to discuss measures to ensure peace and order amid protests held by the People’s Army against the Thaksin Regime. The Royal Thai Police and the National Security Council have also held talks over possible security measures.

The implementation of the ISA was mulled as Chinese premier Li Keqiang is due to visit Thailand from October 11-13. He is slated to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at Government House during the official visit.

As efforts to negotiate with demonstrators had been unsuccessful, the government made a decision to enforce the ISA in three districts surrounding the venue which include Dusit, Pom Prap Sattru Phai and Phra Nakhon from October 9-18.

Of course. Show the Chinese that whilst they tolerate a few insignificant silly protesters, they have a massive police presence at their disposal, ready to crack down at the snap of fingers.
