BOI predicts more than 800 billion baht in investment this year

The secretary-general of the Board of Investment is certain that investment in the 2nd trimester of the year will be smooth sailing, following the resolution of the nation's political crisis.

Mr. Satit Chanchowagul (สาธิต ชาญเชาวน์กุล), secretary-general of the Board of Investment (BOI), revealed that market trends for the 2nd trimester of 2006, adding that there are positive signs for investment in the days ahead, with investors expressing great interest in several high-valued projects in the nation.

This came after the BOI conducted a roadshow in South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and the European nations in order to create confidence and understanding for investors looking to conduct business in Thailand. Mr. Satit expects this year's investment target of 800 billion baht to be a possibility.

The secretary-general added that the investment numbers from January to March of this year were positive despite many obstacles, including Thailand's political crisis.
