Cause of fire in South Pattaya revised by Fire Investigators

PATTAYA: -- On Wednesday Morning Provincial Fire Investigators along with Provincial Police Forensic Officers attended the scene of a major fire which caused extensive damage to 5 buildings close to the South Pattaya entertainment area on Tuesday afternoon.

Initially it was thought that welding sparks caused the fire and an estimated 100 Million Baht’s worth of damage was caused. It has now been concluded that the fire started in the hardware shop and not the Arabic Restaurant located next to the shop and the estimated value of the damage caused has been revised down to 30 Million Baht.

Police interviewed the owners of both businesses and concluded that roof modification work at the rear of the restaurant had finished 2 weeks before the incident. The only activity at the back of the restaurant at the time of the fire was a woman washing clothes on the top floor.

It's interesting that fires in Thailand are almost always put down to "an electrical short circuit". That way it's nobody's fault, it just happened on it's own. Evil spirits. The pile of flammable material, the stack of gas cylinders, the lack of fire escapes or fire extinguishers.....that wasn't anyones fault either.

Seeing the state of the wiring, it is probably the cause in most cases.

So if the fire has been caused behind the Arab resaurant because of welding, the damage would have been THB 100 million, but now the fire has started in the (Thai owned) hardware store the damage is suddenly......THB 30 million.

No wonder that the fire started in the hardware-store.........a product-range and stock of an average HomePro stored in a space with the size of a 7/11...........

I'm pretty sure this was an electric fire too as normally. When I made my office I had to bag for electricians to use safety relays they told this is only money wasting cheesy.gif

Blame it on the woman doing her washing. No doubt she has to be in the wrong

Only if she was a farang smile.png

Many farang blamed for starting fires in Thailand in your "experience?"

The initial speculation/estimate set the location where it started as the restaurant and the possible baht value of damage at 100 million, most likely an off the cuff guess to satisfy some journalist. Upon further investigation it was found that (1) the fire started in the hardware store and (2) the damage was less than in the original estimate. How difficult can that be to understand? Are the investigators not allowed to revise several things?

Only if journalism is based on speculations/estimates instead of facts, investigators are not only allowed to revise things, they have the obligation to do so.

My experience after living 20 years in Thailand is that Thais always blame falangs in traffic accidents, dispute with taxi or tuk-tuk drivers, bar brawls with Thais involved, marriage problems and so on coffee1.gif
