they put massive dutys on wine to protect there wine industry, have you ever tasted thai wine?!

Yes, from Hua Hin Hills Vineyard. And it's pretty good. Pity is that it can only be bought in Hua Hin or at the vineyard. I enjoy a trip to Hua hin every now and then, and often stock up. Better yet, is a trip to the vineyard and their wonderful restaurant. Try it. You might enjoy it.

Quite agree. Also some of the vineyards in the Khao Yai area produce drinkable wines.

The poster is wrong that massive duty on wine is to protect the local vineyards. The massive amount is excise duty which Thai wines are subject to as well as imported ones.

Quite so. And because of the ridiculous penal level of duty, the Thai wine industry will never be able to flourish, and the population will slowly rot from the over consumption of hard spirits.

Export of jewellery is down, export of food is up. Well, it is hard times for many countries. No wonder if the tendencies will persist. Thailand need to lift regulations on foreign engineers and to invite them to build better highways that would connect Thailand with China and Myanmar, as well as to build an international deep water port at coast of the Andaman sea and a rail road to it. I mean to the Thilawa Port or the Dawei Port in Myanmar. It would ease communications to India, Arab countries, and Europe. They all need food from Thailand. Also, Myanmar have a huge potential for economical growth and to be a buyer of cars and appliances from Thailand. Co-operation with Myanmar can make huge profits in near future. Invest in infrastructure over there. Build a railroad to Myanmar.

Really bumping on the bottom. Perhaps the rice pledging wasn't such a good idea for exports but lots of people have made lots of luverly money from it, even it none of them were farmers.

Together with the minimum salary increase, poor flood protection (if you have been flooded in 2011 and see that nothing happened to prevent it again you'll better invest in a different country), stronger Thai Baht.

At the same time other countries like Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam improve.

Difficult situation and bad politics.

If export value surges to US$21-22 billion per month in the final quarter of this year, Thailand would enjoy an export growth of 4 per cent, said Ms Srirat.

She said the 4 per cent possibility would be in accord with an earlier statement Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisarn.

Why would there be a surge and what was in the Commerce Minister's statement ?

Tjeez man, don't you believe in the positive effect of wishfull thinking?

Mind you, I'd be incline to ask "how negative will this year's growth figures be if we don't get a surge'?

Nah, just imagine how abysmal the export figures would be if Yingluck hadn't been globetrotting promoting Thailand. facepalm.gif

We just have to thank Zimbabwe-Mongolia-Montenegro, for helping us through this poor export year. Ha Ha

A bonus being all the tourists arriving from these touristy nations.
