Thai Patriots call off rally at PM's home but threaten to return

BANGKOK: -- THE THAI PATRIOTS NETWORK yesterday cancelled a rally in front of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's home after talks with police, saying they will wait for a week to see the PM, but if they cannot protesters will return to submit a letter at her home.

The group led by Chaiwat Sinsuwong gathered nearby after announcing it would rally in front of the premier's home in Soi Yothinpattani 3 on Navamin-Ramintra Road in Bang Kapi to submit a letter demanding that she issue a written statement to reject the International Court of Justice (ICJ) having jurisdiction over Thailand.

"The premier should do that before the court ruling on the Thai-Cambodian territorial dispute over the Preah Vihear case - to represent nine million people who disagreed with the [original] ruling," Chaiwat said. The ICJ is due to announce its ruling to clarify the 1962 verdict on November 11.

Yesterday police tried to get the group to move to another place or make an appointment to officially submit the letter to the PM. The group later was asked by police to disperse, who said they would coordinate with the premier for an appointment. Chaiwat accepted the proposal but told police that if there was no progress in one week they would return to rally at the PM's home on November 3. After that the group dispersed.

Five companies of police were deployed to guard Yingluck's home on Saturday night. Checkpoints were set up from the mouth of the soi, but it was not closed to traffic. However, the PM was not home yesterday.

The police came from the local area (Metropolitan Division 4), plus Nong Bua Lamphu, Nong Khai, and Chiang Mai.

An improving trend in Thai rallies.

No million cubic centimeters of HIV tainted blood to wash off through the streets and sewers of Bangkok like last time.

Coupled with a degrading trend in Thai governments.

However, the PM was not home yesterday.

.

Grow some balls locals, get out there and be proactive. Gonna take more than letters.

.

No shooting of unarmed civilians adding their blood "to wash off through the streets and sewers of Bangkok" either. Definitely an improving trend in Thai rallies.

That's right Fab4 no shooting and lobbing grenades by this lot of protesters like the reds did.

Try matching like with like next time.

It avoids your apples and tractors matching.

The lights were on but nobody was home. No surprise there.

But this group are completely misguided in putting pressure on Ms. Shinawat personally. She isn't able to affect anything. Thailand belongs to the UN and the ICJ is part of that. You cannot join a club and then decide which rules you want to obey or you will be slung out on your arse toute de suite.

Thailand chose to go to the ICJ and therefore must accept it's ruling or face the consequences.

"demanding that she issue a written statement to reject the International Court of Justice (ICJ) having jurisdiction over Thailand"

That would mean that Thailand could NEVER object to the actions of another nation, nor try to enforce the Thai side of a legal argument. The people protesting Preah Vihar DO NOT LIVE THERE.

SImple arrogance to demand no one take away something they may have never owned, Why that's like a farang getting ripped off by a Phuket jet ski operator, and people protesting because he wants a refund.... and calling it patriotism.crazy.gif
