kawaiimomo
Hi, I would like to grow some poppies, but I am wondering about the legality of it in Thailand. In most countries you can grow them freely, you just can not cut the pod and collect the resin. Is it the same over here or is there a law to specifically ban the growing? If you can point to any relevant link that would be great Thanks
xen
There are quite a few different poppies and related species. I assume you are specifically interested in the opium poppy. If you are interested in poppies for aesthetic purposes, and not medicinal, choose another variety.

If you are interested in poppies for aesthetic purposes, and not medicinal, choose another variety. Well, not the medicinal properties but definitively the papaver somniferum variety. What I had in mind was to get my own seeds for baking and use the beautiful pods as ornamental in floral arrangements.
Cuban
Mythbusters covered this a few years ago - eating Poppy Seeded Bagels did result in a positive test for "opiates" http://www.snopes.com/medical/drugs/poppyseed.asp
