williamrobson Posted November 10, 2013 Share Posted November 10, 2013 So I was driving close to tesco lamai last night at about 7pm when I hear sirens behind, so I pull over expecting an ambulance to pass me. What came past was a mini bus followed be 8 more mini bus in a convoy all with hazard lights flashing. After they passed I continued on my journey and I didn't take long to settle my curiosity on where 9 mini bus were going in such a hurry. Turns out they were some VIPs off enjoying there evening supper at sabiang lay just past hin ta hin yai. Is this normal? I don't regularly drive at that time of the evening so its a first for me. samuijimmy Posted November 10, 2013 Share Posted November 10, 2013 (edited) Seems to happen anytime a VIP is on the island, I got caught a few weeks ago, for about 20 or 30 mins at the PTT station in Bophut... (during the afternoon) along with many others... until the VIP had gone past! Mr BIB said not to take photos .... not that you can tell which vehicle they are in anyway, in the entourage! The "VIP" getting out the min vans looked like Chinese that's why I was wondering if it was common. If these crazy mini van drivers had decided themselves that they are above the rest of us and need a siren and flashing lights to get high paying tourists to the table before the tom yam gets cold. PeterSmiles Posted November 10, 2013 Share Posted November 10, 2013 You see them here in Chonburi daily on the roads, sometimes tour buses with an escort with flashing lights, or even better highway police, making sure everyone gets out of THEIR way. Yet a minute later you will nearly crash into an exceptional transport that needs two driving lanes due to it's size, without any warning lights, let stand an escort.
