Business Club for Democracy will seek impeachment against MPs who supported amnesty bill
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Business Club for Democracy (BCD) will stage a rally today to solicit signatures to impeach MPs who voted for the controversial amnesty bill.

BCD’s leader Somkiat Homlaor told the Nation he will hold a rally at Silom today, and his club will issue a statement calling for soliciting of signatures to impeach 310 MPs who voted for the amnesty bill in the third reading on November 1.

He said he was satisfied with the rejection of the bill by the Senate last night but he still did not trust the government whether they will push forward the bill in the future.

Somkiat declined to comment if his club will support or follow the civil disobedient measures proposed by the Democrat's rally, saying his club's members have not discussed the issue yet.

Ongoing protests to inflict immense damage to tourism

BANGKOK: -- The ongoing anti-government protests could inflict immense damages to the country’s tourism and dampen economic growth, says Thanawat Polvichai, director of the Economic and Business Research Center of the University of Thai Chamber of Commerce.

He said that if the current anti-government protests were dragged on till the first quarter of next year, economic growth could be dampened and could inflict immense damages of the tourism sector.

He forecast the tourism sector could lose between 30,000-50,000 billion baht and thus would subdue economic growth this year to a mere 3.3-3.5%.

But he said that if the protests were prolonged to next year, loss from tourism revenues could top 100-150 billion baht or even up to almost 200 billion baht.

This will also dampen economic growth to 4-4.8% from previous projection of 5-5.1%.

The worst scenario was that if protest turning violent, economic growth this year would then be only 3-3.2%.

The economic researcher also said that if parliament was dissolved, and election called within 90 days economy could recover from fresh injection of funds. However if the opposition wins election, the 2.2 trillion baht infrastructure investment projects which is considered a key driver of the country’s economic recovery would be surely affected and recovery would recover at a slow path.
