Please identify this bird

Featured Replies

I live in Samut Prakarn…plenty of fish ponds and close to the sea.

Yesterday the wife rescued this bird at the kids tennis lesson...it was in the tennis court and either wasn't capable of flying up and over the fence or wasn't aware that it needed to...the wife caught it, took it out and let it go.

Can anybody tell me what type of bird is it? Is it a juvenile bird?

Cheers

hi Bredbury Blue.... it's called a Cinnamon Bittern. Similar to a small heron & very much a bird of marshes, ponds, paddies etc... They're a resident species & found all over Thailand.

Hope you can release it back into the wild if it is fit to fly.

Excellent…thanks for naming the bird. Have to say I’ve never noticed one in all the reed areas around my area but now I’ve seen one I’ll keep my eyes open for others.

As posted, the wife caught it, took it out of the tennis court and let it go immediately. She didn’t mention that it looked harmed or distressed in any way (just think it couldn’t work out how to get through / over the tennis court fence once it got in there)…lucky bird as I often see cats about.

Cheers
