Renewing extension of stay (retirement)

Featured Replies

My current passport expires in May next year, can I still renew my extension of stay (retirement) next month, or is there a minimum period of validity required on my passport?

You can do your extension but it will be done to the date your passport expires. You will have to apply for a new extension then (new rules since August).

If you have time you should get a new passport now.

as post above get new passport if you have time

Thanks Joe and Steve.

Already applied for new passport, just hope it arrives in time. Glad to know there's a way out if it's not here in time.

I had the same problem a few months ago. My embassy was pretty good to expedite the passport. Although a tad expensive for two week turn around I thought.

Do not forget to get a letter from your embassy stating you need the stamps put in your new book. If necessary? I had a reentry permit I wanted to get extended to my new passport.

The Thai Immigration office was also very helpful, and I had no problems. Cover your bases and it will be fine.

Here's to another year in the LOS...:)

Renewing a passport is an individuals own, personal responsibility .

Problems can and will arise if one fails to renew in good time.
