Severe weather hits several provinces

BANGKOK: -- Summer storms dumped massive rain on Bangkok this morning and slammed the central province of Lop Buri, where homes were damaged.

The Meteorology Department says to expect more of the same. It says every part of the country is likely to get thunderstorms and gusty winds, but says the southern region is at greatest threat.

Reports this afternoon said about 10 houses in the central province of Lop Buri were damaged by falling trees and winds during a heavy storm, but no one was injured. Many trees were uprooted and signboards well blown down. The province is conducting a survey to assess the damage.

The influence of southwesterly winds now covering Thailand is triggering thunderstorms and strong winds in some areas of the north and in the northeast --mainly in Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Roi Et, Nakhon

Ratchasima, Surin, and Ubon Ratchathani.

The eastern region and the central plains will experience hot weather and scattered thunderstorms. Cloudy skies and scattered thunderstorms are also predicted in Bangkok and surrounding areas, while in the south, torrential rain is forecast for the lower east coast and one metre-high waves are expected in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea.

On the lower western side of the peninsula, mostly cloudy weather with widerspread thunderstorms over 60 per cent of the area--particularly in Satun and Trang--is predicted.

Wow, this one totally missed our area of BKK!! No rain, no wind! (That's in the Thung Kru District-off Suksawat Rd.

I hope the people in these districts remember to save some of the water for the upcoming drought that they were warned about last week. :o

It didn't hit up near the airport either....or then again, maybe I just slept through it...
