I have been thinking of getting some after market wheels for the Mitsubishi Mirage, the standard wheels are 14 inch but the smallest wheels I have seen in the wheel shops are 15 inch.

The problem I am up against is some of the time I have 4 people in the car so I do not want the problem of wheels rubbing on the arches.

Has anybody changed the wheels on their Mirage to aftermarket and what size did you get ? Below is a list of options for those technically minded amongst us smile.png

Tires for Mitsubishi Mirage
  • Diameters: 13'' - 15''
  • Width (mm): 155 - 195
  • Tire aspect ratio (%): 55 - 80
  • Smallest tire size: 155/80 R13
  • Largest tire size: 195/55 R15
Rims for Mitsubishi Mirage
  • Bolt pattern 4x100
    • Diameter: 13'' - 15'';
    • Width (inches): 4.5 - 6;
    • Offset (mm): 37 - 46.
  • Bolt pattern 4x114.3
    • Diameter: 13'' - 15'';
    • Width (inches): 5 - 6;
    • Offset (mm): 35 - 46.

I don't have a mirage, but a swift. On this car it is common to put on 205/50/15 or 205/45/17. The stock ones on mine are 185/55/16. I'm pretty sure you could use 195 tires with no rubbing on a mirage, but not sure about the 205.

I think ive seen some sort of metal spacer disc that you install on the top of the suspension springs to increase the distance between the tire surface and the top of the inside wheel arch, giving you more space to fit a larger diameter tire , could that be a solution.

Mirage standard fitment:

Rim 14"x 4.5" Offset +46 [PCD 4x100 - you can't change that without adaptors, not recommended]

Tyre 165x65

If you want to go up a wheel size [+1] then the first option is

Rim 15"x 5" Offset 46, but you could reduce this to the recommended +37 if you want to push the tyre out close to the fender.

Tyre size 185 x 45.

Beyond that you could experiment with a 16"x 5" or 5.5". You'll have to be careful with tyre rubbing size choice as well. Use a tyre calculator to see what effect it has on circumference [speedo error].

Why on earth would you do this to a Mirage? That solution is if you want to increase ground clearance and/or fit bigger tyres - think 4x4. Thankfully, I doubt if there is anything off the shelf to do that for Mirages etc.....smile.png

If you want to enhance not only the cosmetics by putting on bigger wheels on your car, then it is usual to upgrade the suspension. This normally means a slight drop in ride height.

The lower CofG, lower profile tyres and [to a lesser extent] reduced offset means that handling is better. Ride compliance is going to be compromised depending on how agressive you get, along with a slight proportional reduction in fuel milage.

In any case, for the OP: avoid the hipari style at all costs!

Thank you very much for your helpful comments, I would have liked to have gone for a wider 14 inch wheel and Tyre keeping the ride soft but it looks like its going to be a 15 inch with a 185 x 45 Tyre smile.png

I took a look at a wheel website with various wheel/tire combos. 15" was a very common size, and a few at 17". I think you can go with either 185/195 tires and 15x6 up to 15x7 tires. Just get the correct offset. The wheel shop would know what rubs and doesn't rub. I think you wont see much difference in comfort if using 15", and 195 tires would make it feel much more stable on cornering. Fuel economy might suffer a little, but not enough to worry about. 17" is a different story.

OMG!!! facepalm.gif That yellow one in the the link has to be the worst colour! bah.gif It highlights every visual flaw in the design of the bodywork. No-one will even notice the aftermarket wheels!

I am interested in this as have the same car.

I find the grip of the stock tyres worrying.

165 x 14 (stock) is a bit too puny and i'm looking at going up to 185 or 195 x 15

Did the OP or anyone else fit 185 or 195s and if so is there any feedback?

I found some good info and pictures of aftermarket wheels and tyres here http://mirageforum.com/forum/showthread.php/385-2013-Mirage-Aftermarket-Wheels

try 15x7 with 195/50/15 tires. Looks good and inside the wheel arches.
