Need help logistics on a run into Laos from Pattaya

Featured Replies

I'm in need to run into Laos for the double entry visa, however I'd like to ping the experienced and knowledgable ppl on the Thaivisa forums for sugestions of cheap hotels, what to do about my itenary and so on.

--

So I'd first off like to query for any sugested companies that'll fly me out of Pattaya area, from here, do I need to land at a border crossing and take a train and or bus? Are there flights directly into Vientiane? Let's say company xyz flys me to the Lao border, from here do i walk around asking for a private cab to Viettiane? What are the typical prices, so that i know i'm not being ripped off?

--

Once in Viettiane, I'd like to lodge at a very inexpensive hotel near the Thai embassy where i can just walk to the embassy, something to the extent of 20-30$USD/1000Bhat-ish a day, anyone have any sugestions? Of course the casual stroll into the embassy after lunch is perffered, however to garner a better daily rate, i'm more than prepared to take a quick taxi.

Thanks again for your help and all, I'm very appreciative, and hope to come back to this forum reading the good news.

Check for flights to Udon Thani on Air Asia. Nok Air offers fly/ride service to Vientiane via Udon. From airport in Udon you can get van to bridge in Nong Kai then shuttle bus across bridge. Then tuktuk or taxi into town.

You can fly to Vientiane but the cost will be much higher.

There are lots of hotels for 1000 baht or less.

You can reports for Vientiane here:

For flights to Udon, with Air Asia and Nok Air, you fly from Don Meuang Airport.

From Pattaya, I personally would get the air con bus to Mor Chit and then a taxi from Mor Chit not Ekamai for about 160 Baht to Don Meuang. You can catch a bus from Mor Chit to Don Meuang, the choice is yours but it is more hassle.

You might be able to get some worthwhile info from the short string linked below. Of course, best option is direct flight to VT, but more baht than flying to UT and minibus to border. One note on the Nok Air package deal to downtown VT: My understanding is you may be in for some wait time at border and they drop you central VT -- where Thai visa processing is not. Don't see the advantage. If your timing is right, you can taxi straight from border to visa offices. I forget name, but once stayed at a hotel just across the street. Was okay, not great. And nothing happening in that area. You can check Agoda. I think that is one of the areas they list.

just got back from the Thai embassy here in Viettien, and ws granted a double entry Thai Visa. (has a '2'). I'd like to clarify, that with this, i wait 59 days, stroll on into the local immigration office, and get it extended for another 30. from here, i border hop, walk into another country, walk back, and am good for another 59 days where i then go back to immigration for a 6 month total visa. If this is straight, and kosher, where's the best place to border hop into that wont gobble up another whole page of my passport w/ their PoS visa, or whatever. i'm actually slightly pissed at these whole page visas.

You don't have to wait 59 days to do your 30 day extension. You can do it a couple of weeks early and loose nothing because it will start at the end of your 60 day entry.

You need to do your 2nd entry on or before the enter before date on your visa.

If you make your border run for your new entry to Cambodia you can avoid the full page sticker by getting an e-visa, See: http://evisa.mfaic.gov.kh/

For Malaysia and Myanmar you don't get a visa stamp/sticker.

For Laos there is not no way to avoid a visa stamp or sticker.

Great. Does this cost money?

The extension costs 1900 baht.

Just got back from the Laos run at Nong Khai. Very crowded yesterday, and slow line into Laos. It took 2 hours for about 80 people to pass through the one open window. You might not make the 12 noon deadline if you arrive after 9am. Get there before 7am....and just pay for a taxi to get you to the consulate so you have a chance to get a lower number in line. Don't sweat going on the cheaper tuk tuks or vans, because they will not leave until they are full.

Alternatively, cross the border in the afternoon and get a hotel near the consulate so you are there when it opens. Lots of people this time of year. You will process your application in the morning and stay another night ...pick it up next day at 1pm.

Why go to Vientiean, have a look at Mukdahan, i think it is much easier. Take the Yellow Bus from Pattaya to Mukdahan then take the Bus from Mukdahan bus station over the bridge to Savannakhet. The Thai Consulate is located right on the Mekong river. Youi go there at 10am in the morning to put in your paperwork and pick up your everything the next day. They are very easy to deal with in Savannakhet. If you need to stay in Mukdahan i recommend Mukdahan Manor as it has the best food in town. You can look on Agoda for hotels in Savannakhet when you look at the Mukdahan city area. This is the cheapest and easiest way to go to Laos i think.
